[Archive] 500 Pt List (Paint and Play)

TheFNG:

Hey all,

Here are two lists I’m considering for my upcoming paint and play. We’ll start at 500 and add 250 each month until we hit 2500. Should be fun. Btw, 3 unit minimum is waived until 1000 points and a BSB can be a general until 1000 points. You must take a Hero/Lord as a general. Otherwise it’s pretty flexible at low points.

So here’s my first list-

Daemonsmith - Lvl 1, Enchanted Shield, Ironcurse Icon 110

20x Hobgoblins, Bows, Shields 110

20x Hobgoblins, Bows, Shields 110

10x Infernal Guard, Fireglaives 170

Total 500

This is my “I have more bodies and more shooting than you do” list. The basic tactic is simple. Shoot, shoot, shoot, and shoot some more before closing in CC. I’ll take Death magic with my Daemonsmith and hope for either the 2-4 spells or just take the signature, Spirit Leach. I think that this will work against almost all 500 pt armies except for a dwarf gun line build. A stone thrower could wreck my face.

Second list-

1x Daemonsmith, Enchanted Shield, Ironcurse Icon 110

10x Infernal Guard 120

5x Wolf Riders, bows 70

1x deathshrieker 100

20x hobgoblins, bows 100

Total 500

This is a pretty normal list only downsized. Fast cav for warmachine hunting. Deathshrieker gets sat right next to the IG with Dsmith for the re-roll. Hobgoblins seek to pick off chaff and whittle down the opponent as he advances.

Honestly, I think I prefer the first. I think its more competitive, however I also think that the second would be more tactically stimulating. It also has more drops. My problem is the idea that my opponent may just bring a single horde of their best core. How does my list deal with Ironguts or Chaos Warriors?

Anyways, I welcome your thoughts and please don’t be afraid to throw a completely different list my way. The only thing i am stuck on is I will take a Daemonsmith instead of a Castellan as magic is FAR more powerful when there are even fewer bodies on the field.

Time of Madness:

500pt games are very difficult to play in as shooting/magic do very well. The removal of the minimum 3 units is a mistake in my opinion. You are going to see most people just put one large unit down on the table. A unit like fireglaives who can shoot and still hit hard in combat would be a decent unit to field. I’d be tempted to take a dameonsmith with 20 or some fireglaives in a 10X2 formation.

The points on your smith are wrong, I believe he should only cost 105pts.

Here’s a quick list I threw together.

- Smith with enchanted Shield/Opal Amulet (115pts)

- 12 Fireglaives with command and gleaming pennat in a 6X2 formation (240pts

- Magma Cannon

The magma cannon should make short work of large units.

Like the first list. Maybe you should get a level 2 if you want to cast one good spell.

Infernal guards are costly in such a small format.

Two way to play in a small game as ToM said : one big unit, or many small units. But very often, it’s the big unit which win the game…

ToM said everythings : CDs can do it with hobgoblins+khan on wolf+one deathshriek for example, or one big unit of fireglaives (which can shoot and fight decently)
