[Archive] [9th Age] Infernal dwarfs got a boost in 9th age

TheHoodedMan:

Did you see the new ID book in 9th age (v 12.0)?

Much more playable now. Citadel guard in core with option to flintlock (“fireglaive”) with bs 4.

All bull centaurs in special. Disciples of lugar with upgraded rules in special. ziggurat guard with bodyguard in special.

That is good in comparison to a few downgrades like infernal engine is now one of a kind.

But altogether army composition is a lot more flexible from my point of view.

What do you think?

Doombeard:

I think they should write a description of each troop type and what they are, I tried reading some of the options and couldn’t work out what a lot of it was. Some of it was obvious but other bits were a bit confusing. Can somebody write up a guide on here and break it down? Like what is a disciple of Lugar meant to be? And whats the equivalent in wfb or LoA?

Baggronor:

I think Disciples of Lugar are like Slayers or the Infernal Dwarf Berserkers in KoW. No idea on fluff (is there even any?)

At the moment only the Undying Dynasties got any real fluff.

Disciples of Lurgar are supposed to be possessed berserkers with some sort of divine favour.
Lurgar might or might not be 9th Age's stand-in for Hashut.

As for other strange units, Ziggurat Guard are basically temple guardians (Ziggurats being the large temple structures) while Citadel Guard defend the cities of the Infernal Dwarfs.

Most other should be self-explanatory.

Roark:

I’m pretty relieved about Core. Things were looking a bit grim for a while.

Grimbold Blackhammer:

There are still a fair number of issues with this new book but it’s heads and shoulders above the previous car-wreck. I’m eager to get to play-testing!

Petterwass:

Yeah, it is not perfect. But it is pretty playable.

Which is beter than we had before.

The new disciples especially actually has me want to convert up a unit.

TheHoodedMan:

I did a game and everything performed quite well.

Artillery with bound demon is a mighty choice, the citadel guard hits good on distance (sturdy helps as well) and the disciples are a real threat. They didn´t see a melee but that was because my opponent avoided this because of the number of great weapon hits.

P.S.: There is no fluff yet for the infernal dwarves (pmed one of the armybook people).

juniac_6:

Haven’t tested the new list (but scheduled battle for tomorrow)

I’m going to test Disciples of Lugar (X25 full command, 2 Handed weapons) and I’m thinking on possible conversions.

As they have Otherworldly, Fireborn and Volcanic Embrace rules, I was thinking in some “fire elemental” appearance, at least burning hair or something like that.

What do you think guys?

I guess this matter deserves its own thread (as I am also thinking about possible conversions), mods? :hat off

TheHoodedMan:

Good idea to make a new thread under “conversions”.

Petterwass:

I’ve played two game now with the 0.99 Chaos Dwarfs and won both (against a less experiences opponent). Quite happy with the book.

There are some nerfs incoming and some units kinda struggle to find a place and role, but overall I am pleased and think that of my three armies, I will probably main Chaos Dwarfs, at least 'til my Bretonnia army gets to a playable state

Grimbold Blackhammer:

There are some (thankfully) very minor nerfs and some moderate buffs to the next release which I expect will be the final release so people can start prepping for this year’s ETC. The 9th Age is about to step out of it’s beta phase!

Petterwass:

Yep, 0.99.4 is out now.

Disciples of Lugar got hit heavily with the Nerfbat in about 3 different way and are still a good unit.

The Murdertrain lost a point of BS, so it’s hardly worth taking if you can take the close combat version, unless you know that you’re facing Monstrous Infantry. But it might get reversed after ETC.

The rest is mostly unchanged.
