[Archive] 9th ed base sizes and other maddness

Geist:

This is not so much as a an army roster as bouncing ideas around for what might be going on with 9th ed.

So first off lets talk base sizes. Now that GW has shown us that bases dont matter for jack all for what units get what bases, that makes my mind wonder about something.

Stomp and Thunderstomp.

Assuming those rules stay anywhere near the same GW if they are in the logical mindset will make it so that stomps work on a series of base sizes and not unit types. What does this mean? It means anything on the 100x150mm base will be the king of the ring.

My idea.

Put together a list with 3 irondemons or skullcrackers. Not sure which would be better, but given they only fight properly on a 100x150mm base, they would be the terror of everything.

Thoughts on the previous two articles in this? While you mull those over let me jump to the next part.

Combined profiles.

If this happens this takes a lord on a great bale from a cute choice to damn near a must have. Imagine a model that has 6 wounds 6 toughness 1+ armour save 4++ ward save, and more than likely near 6 attacks at st 6. Plus all the crazy rules that go with it.

Do we think this would be worth while? He would be hard pressed to survive a blender lord with any thing higher st than 6, but maybe its a good idea or am I nuts? last question is one of those rhetorical ones. The real question is, does it work?

Lemme know your feed back on these ideas.

I dont think stomps would ever go by base size and stick to the only infantry, swarms, warbeasts route it has taken. Those 3 classifications would already cover infantry on 20/25/40/50 mm bases, and still leave monsterous infantry immune. Remember stomps are designed to give monsters that extra push up against massed ranks of infantry, I just dont think they took that idea into serious account when designing the Ogre Kingdoms Army.

A Chaos dwarf prophet on bale tarus if going with the general formula for a combined profile would have t6, str6, w6, a7 (since they just combine each models attacks) It would be more than worth it since it is essentially a flying K’daii destroyer without the liability of burning bright or frenzy. Even blender lords with str7 would be hesitant to get into Close Combat with this monster, and dont most only have str5? Those who do go into str7 territory would have to sacrifice some form of defense needing a +2str magical weapon (greatweapon heroes/lords still need to re-roll, and now have to take 7 str 6 hits first) and additionally their might be the possibility of taking magical armor and magical weapons still on our lord to further augment the defenses and attacks. The only thing that is going to be a threat to these new types of lords are lords of the same flavor and possibly cannons IF the rules stay the same.
