[Archive] A Legion of Azghor "what if?"

lostmember:

As an addendum to the point regarding this list being like the Slayer army list (this has been mentioned a couple of times), I think that raises an interesting “what if?” question.

Given that numerous units from the Karak Kadrin list are not (and never will be) available to a ‘vanilla’ Dwarf army, I’d be interested to know how much of the Azghor list people think would/should make it into a theoretical ‘vanilla’ CD army book. How much of this list do people see as representative of CDs as a whole, and how much is just for this one fortress?

How much influence does the fluff for the book have over people’s over-all views of the race (those who have read the fluff, obviously) and has anything important changed? In short, do you now look at the evil stunties in a new light?

For the Slayer army, a unit (with it’s own character) was ‘writ large’ to form almost a new faction. However, the creation of the Infernal Guard by FW seems to make the Azghor list more of a separate entity from Chaos Dwarfs as we know/knew them. Equally, the nature of the new cult means it’s less likely to be a key part of the wider society than slayers are for Dwarfs, or so it seems to me (slayers go traveling to seek a glorious death, whereas IG are there to die in a specific area in service to Hashut). So IG don’t seem to me to be as ‘necessary’ to the CD story as slayers are to the Dwarf one.

Anyway, what do people think?

i believe that IF there will be a proper cd release somewhere in time and space that we won’t see all of the guard in the list, if we were to take the slayer army as precedent, but rather either guard or ironsworn…i dont have the book yet and therefore not the fluff, but i could imagine that the cult supplies zharr-naggrund with warriors (=guard) rather than the ‘royal guard’ of their own realm, mainly since zharr-naggrund,as a temple city, has its own temple guard, namely bull centaurs.

Grimstonefire:

I haven’t read all the CD bestiary parts yet, but from what I have read there’s nothing really controversial in there fluff wise.

It’s all pretty much WD Presents + daemon binding, which is what we all expect anyway. Hazy on hashut and origins.

The infernal guard and ironsworn are an unexplored area in CD society.  So no, it doesn’t change my view of CD as a whole.

They could very easily copy and paste the entire legion of azgorh list into a bigger CD list without problem fluffwise.  Perhaps even keeping drazhoath as a special character (rather than just relegating the model to a mounted sorcerer).

Baggronor:

I think that the war machines are representative of a general CD army - the ID itself is surely the result of a need to transport artillery and troops over vast distances so I can see them trekking across the Darklands on a daily basis.

The Infernal Guard are unique to the Black Fortress, I think? I don’t have the book yet but that was the impression I got from the snippets of fluff. So in a generic CD list I could see them being one of the Core or Special choices, in a similar way to Executioners/Corsairs in the DE list, troops that are from one particular area or aspect of the society.

The Hobgoblins seem about right too - slaves and Rare fast cav. BCs would be present in a generic list, as would K’Daii. If anything, BCs shouldn’t really have been in the Tamurkhan list, as their task is to guard the great temple at Zharr Naggrund.

I think a more representative CD army list would include fighting Lords though - there must be some double-hard so-and-so’s in Zharr Naggrund after all - even if they aren’t that influential.

I think everything released would be seen in a cd book.

Ugly Green Trog:

Only thing you might see is a limit on how many IG units you could take as they are native to the Black Fortress after all, perhaps they would be a special choice in a regular CD list unless Drazhoath is present making them core.
