[Archive] aaaaagh, multipart chaos dwarf sculpt

gorgarrak:

WARNING I AM WRITING THIS AFTER A SLEEPLESS NIGHT SO IT MAY ALL MAKE NO SENCE

I was thinking how hard can it be (once i learn to cast in resin) to create forge world style sprues for CDs, one consisting of 4 sets of legs, one of 4 torsos and beards, one of 6-8 helmets, a few of different arm sprues(great weapons, spears, sheilds and blunderbusses) and a specialist one with accesorys/torso with bare head/musician etc.

sketches to follow…

any advice would be much appreciated in this task which may consume my sanity

P.S.all parts will be sculpted by me I.E no GW production parts, so after (if) i finish they can be sold to anyone interested

Baggronor:

I would say its not as difficult as most people think, but still pretty challenging.

I only cast in metal at the moment but for home production many of the principles are the same (I think). I like metal as it can be re-used.

This site was very helpful for me:

I too have been considering the possibilities for multi part Dwarves; how to go about dividing the parts up is down to what your Dwarfs look like.

One thing I would say is: Remember that more parts is not necessarily better; a lesson GW learned with the 6th ed Skaven plastics and similar kits. With Dwarves, I’m looking at 3-4 pieces per guy maximum (probably torso with head, legs, weapon and maybe shield/whatever) any more than that is just going to irritate people when building them imo. Then you also have room on the sprue for extras like a banner or a horn or ammunition pouches, pistols, etc.

Post some pics as you go, we wanna see

Kered:

I would suggest making one base model cast it and make adjustments to it to create several different designs and poses.

i have looked into GW copyright, so my “evil gnomes” will not use any GW interlectual property, the eight pointed star is not GW copyright asd it represents a compass with all points showing north, no runes of hashut though

P.S. could someone please tell me who did the art on indy gt dwarfs of chaos pages 19 and 20 as i do not want to infringe upon there interlectual property without permission first

many thanks

The Chaos Star is older than GW, despite what they like to believe; Michael Moorcock did a lot of stuff with it, and even he didn't invent it iirc. So you should be fine, some other companies also use it.

I'm certain it is someone from CDO but their identity escapes me...

Bolg:

Good luck with the project.

Look up "wind rose" and you'll see similar things on ancient maps. In WH it represents the winds of magic/chaos.

i have started work on the legs for my multiparts, just an armature for now, i’ll post pics once the detail sculpt is finished on 4 sets of legs.
