After Abyssalmatt asked about a KoW tactics/advice section of the site I realized I had a KoW and Chaos Dwarf related conundrum that would be worth weighing in on the forum.
So here is my current 2,000 point tournament list ?" it has served me very well and I feel very confident about being competitive with it (I do very well amongst my own local groups and also did very well at the last tournament I went to).
Immortals Regiment + Mastiff 160 Immortals Regiment + Holy Hand Grenade 170 Immortals Regiment + Mastiff + Potion of Strength 190 Decimators Horde + Blessing of the Gods 280 Grotesques Horde + Healing Brew 255
This list is a counter to the Super Elite Big Things meta that is going on in Kings of War right now. Simply put I deploy as far away as possible while still being able to waddle over to objectives then my Chaos Dwarves hold you back and my big old artillery battery of five war-machines all the way back on my table edge obliterates the super expensive super hard hitting and tanky height 2+ units which act as the lynch pin of most people?Ts armies. The Bullcentaurs let me reach out and touch things and present threat range, and the Decimators and other short range attacks also helps to keep people at bay and punish them for approaching. This list is very fine-tuned and I really believe the only reason I didn?Tt win the last tournament I took them to (I played last round on the top table against the 1st place winner) is because I made allot of tactical mistakes myself.
My conundrum is that US Masters has been bumped up from 2,000 to 2,250! And therefore the tournament I?Tm going to next month has also bumped up to that points value to prepare for masters. My fine tuned Dawi Zharr machine all of a sudden is out of whack. This seems like a great opportunity to sure up the weaknesses of the list- but I?Tm afraid this will also water down my strengths.
The biggest problems I have are: I have no chaff I am very slow I need more inspiring I don?Tt have a good way to deal with Wasps (Small fliers or flying heroes who can easily hunt my war machines)
I am thinking about adding the following: Regiment of Slave Orcs + Flying Hammer Troop of Slave Orc Gor Riders (will be Hobgoblin Wolf riders) Slaver + Lute of Insatiable Darkness (or Griffon Banner, or Zephyr Crown)
But to be honest I?Tm not really totally happy with this selection (they don?Tt really sure up many of my big problems and it waters down my shooting), I really have about 270 points I can play with and would love to hear suggestions. I?Tm pretty happy with the Regiment of slave Orcs though ?" their very cheap and I really just wanna model some Slave Orcs. But I am open to any suggestions, I am also very receptive to Goblin allies (for Hobgoblins ?" I am ashamed of my lack of Hobgoblin slave-soldiers).
I haven’t yet played Abyssal Dwarfs in KoW, so its tactic from a simple and non competitive Goblin mind here… But I would go for some Gargoyles, they are cheap and fliers. Or if you are more “true” Chaos Dwarf in your approach maybe some Fleabag Riders? They don’t pack much punch, but are able to stand their own against small units and war machines. And often enough to disorder a flying unit.
I think the fleebag riders might be a better option then the slave orc gor riders and yeah their isn’t really room for gargoyles in a classic chaos dwarf style army otherwise three troops of them would be an amazing inclusion tactically.
Unfortunately I have no more war machine or hero slots open so more mortars or my original slave diver pick are a no go x.x
Halfbreeds and naked slavedriver it is then. The halfbreeds will unlock another slot ;P I prefer the halfbreeds to grotesques anyway, but I'm still pretty new to kow, so its probably an operator error :/

Yes I prefer the halfbreeds as well, my big issue is getting my hands on suitable models for them (I've been waiting for some Lost Kingdoms or Russia Alternative Cav sized bulls to hit the market for ages). They have better speed, a smaller footprint and hit considerably harder with that 3+ Me score (not to mention being a ton cheaper!).
Oddly enough the Grotueqests are actually better defensive units, their considerably higher nerve and 5+ defense means you have to dedicated allot of hitting power to shift them (which means that Regen comes into play allot more) - I've often held up entire flanks of enemy armies with them (a situation where the big footprint actually comes in handy) - however they don't combo especially well with my artillery line since their so tall.
@Abyssalmatt Are the heads on the Mantic Halfbreeds a seperate bit from the body? I could probably be pretty happy slapping some Russian Alternative heads on them (Big hats and curly beards 4life!)
yes, they are seperate from the bodies. I like them as is really, If their weapons were easier to swap out, I’d have 2 or 3 times as man y of them.
My problem with grotesques is that they’re height 3, so you can’t hide them behind hills and they just get shot apart. I like halfbreeds more because of the 3+ melee and the height 2 and smaller footprint allow me to hide them behind obsidian gollems more easily until I’m ready to peak a boo charge them into something.
Do you get an added bonus for doing a "Peek-a-Boo" charge as opposed to a normalcharge?
Abecedar
Lol not exactly no- that just means that once the unit in front of them is dead suddenly now their are bullcentaurs ready to charge in... or if the opponent is tall enough they can likely pile in to a multi-charge from a safe position.

I havent found I'v had any problem against shooting with mine- but in my local meta I'm shootiest guy around. I'm sure if I ran up against another artillery line or some other shooting heavy army I'd probably have the same problem - I'll keep it in mind for my tourney next month to watch out for them getting piled on in the shoot phase.
we have alot of lizardmen / nature players around here, and they have alot of lightning bolt spam, and the acid spitting dinosaurs. shooting heavy goblin lists too
