[Archive] Anyone here into Blood Bowl or BFG?

Vogon:

@Vogon

From what I understand at some point in the next month they are stopping production of all specialist games models and just winding down stock.  It may have already happened.

Presumably they will do a typical GW and instead of carrying on until the last few (or heaven forbid have a firesale), they will all just disappear overnight from the website and the models melted down etc.

I believe that FW have already stopped producing and some BFG items that are already listed as out of stock I don't think will ever come back in.  Some of them will quickly for a day or two etc (I've been paying close attention). ;)

I've had a bit of a spend and picked a few things to sell later.  Keep my hobby self funding.

That's a real shame. It was 2nd edition Blood Bowl and Adeptus Titanicus (followed by Space Marine) that got me into Games Workshop all those years ago. I still have a substantial number of Titans (Gargants, Land Trains etc.) and two large armies and half a dozen old Blood Bowl teams.

Cheers

I have the Greebo chaos dwarf blood bowl team, and have had a few demo games… I’m holding out hope that blood bowl is GW’s “mystery box” for the fall, and that there will be a resurgence in my area!

Grimstonefire:

I heard as well it could be Hero Quest.

Bloodbowl would be the logical choice, but then… that would be logical and GW isn’t known for that.

Zuh-Khinie:

GW doesn’t hold the rights to Heroquest… it’s an MB game. Warhammer Quest would be possible though.

I've seen people mention this, but eith the added caveat that ALL metal models are being removed. That principally all SG models are metal is kinda incidental. Or not. Chicken/egg situation I guess.

Personally I'm not sold on the idea to try and hoard these models. I think people aren't going to be *tha*t interested in paying premium. BB players can buy thirdparty models and I think there's just not that many BfG to make it worthwhile.

Grimstonefire:

Removing ALL metal models I really hope is not the case, as my Dwarf army will be bereft of a lot of characters. :frowning:

I’m presuming they will bring back a lot of the character models in finecast…?  Units should all be finecast already I believe, unless they are collectors.

The fact that there’s not many BFG players seems to be adding to the prices, a bit like us CD players. Two of the FW Tau Custodian models (£17 each RRP) sold for £76 and £51 respectfully on ebay the other day. I picked up 4 before they sold out.

That'd be my guess, but this is GW after all. There's actually a number of items not finecasted yet. A lot of them Dwarf, but HE has the Eagles, Ellyrian Reavers that's not from IoB, craptonne of characters. A few odds and ends mostly in the nonupdated armies.

With that in mind that, I could very well see them pull everything in metal. It would mostly hit SG at this point.

Huh. Them b**** be crazy...
Well, it's not my money. I'm just thinking a lot of the people who cared about BfG should be set, well except me who never got around to getting that Grand Cruiser. Unlike CDs who had the whole WHFB to play with BfG is more limited.
People thought they could "invest" in Dreadfleet too...

Grimstonefire:

Well, dreadfleet was never a supported game and was only limited in nature anyway. So it was never going to be a big hit in the long run.

BFG, whilst unsupported for many years, was tacitly supported by the continual sales of models. Plus, from what I gather, it is a very good game.

However, unlike blood bowl I don’t think there is a commonly accepted (fan written) rules update. Which is a prerequisite to building and maintaining a community.

Thommy H:

The BFG rules don’t really need an update - like Warmaster and the LOTR SBG, they were more or less perfect right out of the gate.

Abecedar:

Bump…

We have a new guy in our area who is one of the designers (I think) for Bloodbowl. And he has hinted at the Mystery Box or somesuch release this year to be Bloodbowl

That has been said since the release of Space Hulk Im afraid... Would really love to see BB again. But GW would have to be careful with it, since its a community driven game these days.

Bloodbeard:

Blood bowl has a huge community. And the current edition of living rule book - Competition Rules are great IMO.

Can’t really think of that many things to change in the rules. But some new miniatures would always be great. But they have to be really good, because there are so many great alternatives for bloodbowl miniatures.

Don’t think we’ll see another bloodbowl edition from GW, nope.

The only things I would change if I could would be Claw+Mighty Blow+Pile On-combo and to be able to pass accurate again with Trow Teammate.

Bloodbeard:

Yeah. ClawPoMb (a nice word) is a winning strategy in the game. And makes Chaos the best team. So some restrictions would be good on that one.
