[Archive] Aos game fixes

sam585:

So after chewing on the aos rules I think some of these fixes would be very benifical for the game.

1- bases don’t mater, but all measurements are done from the base of the model.

2- a model may freely rotate as many times as it wishes so long as it’s base does not move farther than its movement profile.

3- Game size will be 100 wounds each with 25 wounds max of heroes and 25 wounds.max of warmachines.

4- all terrain that obscures a models line of sight gives cover.

5- all warmachines that don’t require line of sight to shoot at a target can only hit on a roll of 5 or 6, if they moved for any reason that turn then they can only hit on a 6.

6- A wizard may attempt to unbind a spell no matter his location on the field.

Any other questions, comments, and suggestions would be appreciated.

Doombeard:

I think there’s a lot more than this that needs to be fixed but until they publish a full rules set with escalation and scaling up type rules there’s not much point on trying to play AoS with anything other than a small skirmish force or the AoS box contents. That’s what people seem to be missing here.

Zhatek The Weird:

I must say I fully agree with Doombeard, we cant know for certain until all cards are on the table so to say.

Vex:

Give it until October when GW has released everything it has for the summers schedule.

AGPO:

I’m with Vex on this. Thinking back to Ravening Hordes 6th Ed there was a big gap between Ravening Hordes lists and army books because RH was only ever a get you by thing.

Once we’ve got the bulk of the releases for the two starter set armies we’ll have a clearer idea of where AoS is heading.

As far as your suggestions go I’m with you on all except no. 3, because I like the fact that there’s no fixed army selection rules and I think changing that changes what they’re aiming to do with AoS. If you and your opponent want to impose criteria that’s fine.

The only other thing I’d change is the range of melee weapons. The current mechanism is clunky and encourages modelling for advantage. I’d introduce something similar to the spear rules for lotr. If your weapon has a range of 2 it can fight through a friendly model in front, so long as they’re about the same size/on the same type of base. Otherwise you need to be in b2b to fight. It saves a lot of pointless measuring and quibbling over 1/4 of an inch.
