So as I mentioned before, I’m going to rebase my entire CD army to round/oval bases!
I have a vision of my army in Aos, they are trawling over the mystical ruins of their past, to find salvation in the future.
So mystical burned ruins etc.
I found some very inspirational ones with micro art studios that I’ll use for 40mm+ bases, but I’m not forking out that much just for rank and file. So some creative greenstuff relief moulding will be required.
Thoughts on the test? Apologies the first photo quite dark
Great bases imo. Love the runes. Maybe the lava could have a bit brighter highlight to set the mini off or that could be the photo. Love the concept of exploring their own ruins very AoS.
Excellent!! Love the bases and the thematic back story to them! You?Tre a braver man than I… I haven?Tt been able to mentally commit to rebasing yet!
It will take time, but I will get there. First step I need to build all these bases.
My army was actually self limited in a way. Because of the way I designed the units, and because they are such bulky models, they had to fit together as a unit perfectly. Which ironically made it soul destroying to build and paint them.
By being treated now as individual models I can start to churn them out.
Plus I will almost certainly sell about 40 of the brotherhood, if I haven’t already (the CD side all still boxed up for now). So long ago now I can’t remember if I did. I want to consolidate my entire model collection down to painted, sold, or binned.
It was mainly because of the issues above I decided to rebase, and because I was never totally happy with the bases anyway. Also my CD army is the least finished of my 3 main armies. My Dwarf army is far closer to finished.
I don’t actually feel AoS demands round bases at all. For me it’s about feeling my army can have a place in the new setting. I will tell the story through the bases, then eventually write some new fluff. Something I’m actually very pleased about was the fact that my entire back story to my army actually lent itself almost perfectly to advancing into AoS. Really, where I had a gate to the realm of chaos as the sole (and soul) driving force behind everything they did, if you re-type that as Realm Gate then immediately my army fluff is mostly sorted.
For those (almost everyone) unfamiliar, my army fluff had basically the 40k equivalent of the golden throne holding the webway portal. In the centre of zharr naggrund, with hundreds of the deadliest warmachines in existence all pointed at it inside a massive chamber. They were using sacrifices to try and close it, and also draining magic out of it to power war machines.
Regarding basing, it actually matters alot with basing in AoS now. Since you now meassure base to base and all weapons have a range. Ex Plaugebearers are on 32mm bases and have a range of 1? so can only fight in one rank where troops on 25mm bases can fight in two etc. But I guess in a closed envirement with friends you dont have to be as strict.
