[Archive] Arming Castellan battle standards

Time of Madness:

Castellan BSB’s are very important character choices for the new Chaos Dwarf army. Not only do they provide the very important re-rolls for the army they also make the unit they are in stubborn.

Just looking at a couple of different builds for ultimate protection. What do people like better.

OPTION 1

Castellan ( BSB )

- Great Weapon

- Dawnstone

- Armour of Bazherak

= 210pts

* Provides a 2+ re-rollable save with some magic resistance. Also is punchy in combat with 3 S6 attacks.

OPTION 2

Castellan ( BSB )

- Hand Weapon

- Blackshard Armour

- Enchanted Shield

- Dawnstone

- Talisman of Preservation

= 215pts

* Provides a 2+ re-rollable save with a 4+ ward save.

Is there any other options that sound good?

Personally i’d go for option 2. My BSB needs to survive and give units rerolls not kill stuff.

Isn’t “The Armor of Bazherak the Cruel” 25 skaven slaves in cost? How do you have room for the dawnstone if the hero can only take that many slaves in gear?

At least by the GD France list they can have 37.5 worth, likely to make up for the lack of melee characters.

I would go for option two, just because of my general rule: A BSB should survive first, killy comes second

Sorry folks, I assumed they were still able to take 75pts of magic items.

Baggronor:

Dragonhelm, Dawnstone, shield and 15pts of something else (not got BRB near me). So 2+ re-rollable, 6+ parry ward and 2+ ward vs flaming. And 15pts of something else.

The BSB’s role is to survive and keep the re-rolls coming - vital to small, elite armies.

Opal amulet? (one use 4+ ward). 2+/2+/4++ should last a long time

Hashut’s Blessing:

Possibly try to make Rykarth the Unbreakble? That’s my plan! (Stubborn, BSB is quite Unbreakable too!)
