Basically had an experience the other day that was slightly awkward and not sure how to handle it in future.
Was a playing a mate at the club and this bloke is sound. Slight gamer but generally ok. If you pull something off against him he tries to jokingly look for every loophole in the rules but never moans or cheats, just a bit of a conga-liner when he needs to.
2 things happened. First my wizard on carpet ended up in combat with a stegadon and he thunderstomped me. I argued this as I didn’t think he could as I was on a carpet but the rules just say that I have the fly ability, not that I am mounted. Is this right? So no bonus for being mounted?
The first, I will concede as my mistake but the second. His other Steg charged 20 infernal guard with great weapons. He did all his other attacks and then said ‘Ill do my thunderstomp’. I argued that it was me first to which he pointed in the rulebook that it says something like, stomp attack has the always strikes last special rule. I pointed out that on the side of that same page it says that it comes at the end of combat but he said well then why put always strikes last, so we will do the attacks together. I just let it go as it wasn’t overly important in the game.
I don’t need a rules clarification as I know the thunderstomp is after everything else. What I need to know is how would you argue this with somebody who is a bit of a gamer but generally ok? With a full on gamer I would tell him to stop being a … and stop trying to cheat. With a good mate, I would probably say the same and point out that he is wrong but we would laugh about it. With somebody in the middle that you get on with but not incredibly close to - what would you do?
As it was, it didn’t matter anyway but in future this could be quite important in a game.
