Gar Shadowfame, you’re misinformed. It used to be, but since then, ridden monsters have been deemed to be placed on 50mm x 50mm bases. I also believe that the unit strength/base size chart states it too.

Yup, its the big monster base, same as all other similarly sized large target monsters such as Griffons and Manticores.

40mm when they came out, 50mm bases now.

Nope, oficial GW ruling is that one uses base he got model with, until new model is released with different base size. So old metal high elf dragons have to be placed on new base, and old dark elf dragons on same model base they were at.
Since there is no new GT or Lamma, then one ought to use 40x40mm.
And thats legal.

The GW base size chart that came out in 6th ed had them on 50mm square bases. Nothing has changed since then.

The base chart is an update tot he ruling of “what the models come with”, so it is now the 50mm by 50mm.
