I’m a bit of an amateur sculptor (well REALLY amateur) so I thought I’d give some CD’s a go. I’ll be making some small hats for my big hat generals. In other words they’ll be big hat style dwarfs with skull caps.
I’ve made up a basic torso shape at the moment and now I just need to sculpt the armor on. Usually it’s the faces I have most trouble with. As these guys are mostly beard I shouldn’t have as much trouble as usual ( I find beards easier than skin) Here’s how they are shaping up. I’m almost out of procreate putty so I made this stuff out of milliput. None of this will show on the final copy. If they go well enough I’ll make my own home castings with some pinkysil and then do me some resin versions. I’ll try a few different arm options as well. The shield arms will probably be part of the torso and the weapon arm will most likely be separate. The feet will be poking out from the bottom of the armor as that will make them easier to cast. I’m thinking to far ahead now though. Get these done first beefcake. Still a long way to go yet.
Bolg:
Good luck and enjoy!!
(and keep them WIP pic coming)
theforgefather:
Good, it’s nice to see WIP shots of people’s armies
(but it’s just as good to see finished ones keep up the good work)
beefcake:
Thanks guys.
I’ve put the first (bottom) layer of armour on. It looks rubbish at the moment but I’m sure after a few more layers it will look much better.

Love there Mustaches !!
Hey I’m just teasing you Beef cake Its a great start Can’t wait to see the hats

These guys are still on the go. No pics as of yet but there will be over the weekend hopefully. Here’s a hobgoblin hero that I’m converting, it’s a forced conversion though as the guy came without a weapon and without a cloak or quiver. I’ve got coming my way some Oglah Kahn RoR bits and pieces including Gazakh’s (spelling?) giant wolf. So he’ll probably be mounted on that and have be holding a spear and I’ll find either a quiver for him and put a bow on his back or just put in a spare weapon at his side. The stripping job I did was rather bad on it.
He’ll look a lot better on his mount as the cloak should fit better with a mount. I shot it at a bad angle.

Here’s the progress on one of the CD’s, this is probably the best looking at the moment and has the most done to it. Next step is adding a moustache then the nose and sharp teeth will go on. It will have a metal dome cap, can’t have a taller cap than his leader now can he? Arms will also need doing. I have a few weapons down below. A maul(?), a warhammer, and a slashy axy halberdy type thingy. All of which need more deatiling to them. I’ll maybe try to add some small details to him. Maybe some pouches etc. Shoulder pads also need more work.
Currently 20mm to the eyes
theforgefather:
Nice the scales look really good as well
beefcake:
Cheers.
Even more progress (none photographed though. The face is complete. Just needs a helmet and perhaps some more details and the man body is done. I’ve detailed the maul/sledehammer as well. some skulls, and teeth on the hitty part. Shoulder pads half done. Basically just the arms and the helmet left on this guy.
beefcake:
Luckily the putty is still wet at the moment so I can sharpen up the details on the gauntlets. Didn’t see that with the naked eye. Also a little minor work to fix up some of the scales which will probably be harder than doing them in bulk. I made a textured piece of putty as a stamp for the scale armour which made it really easy. The gauntlet on the hammer is shown from where it joins the arm so it doesn’t look very detailed from this view. Still a small bit more work to do on the helmet, it looks a bit like a wooly cap at the moment, and the shoulder armour. When looking front on properly you can still see his eyes.

The top one is complete and then working dowanwards from their it is in order of completeness. I just sepnt a bundle on getting a kilo of pinkysil and a kilo of resin. Of course this is for other projects too (I’ve made up my own dungeon floor tiles)
Once theya re all complete (a couple of days as I now have 2 weeks off) I’ll put up close ups. I still have to work more on the weapons as they have only 1 weapon at the moment. I’m looking at making about 3 hand weapons. A great weapon or 2 and a blunderbuss as well.
Also The Hobgoblin hero is looking much better now, Oglah Khan’s banner as a spear and Gazakh Kahn’s wolf to ride on. He looks suitably mean.

So I made up a mold for 3 of these guys yesterday. My first attempt at mold making for 2 sided items (I’ve made a couple of bases) And here they are. Also included in the pics are some resin dungeon tiles I’ve been working on which have turned out pretty cool. I used 40 mls of resin to make these guys which made 3 ministures, the sprue and vents etc, and also I made the small dungeon corridor pieces and 8 bases , some sci-fi some fantasy (not all shown).I still have heaps of resin leftover too. There’s a few bubbles with these guys, especially the feet but I cut some extra holes in the mold so the feet should be better next time. I’m pretty happy with these guys. No arms attached yet, they will be a different mold, and I went for helmets instead of open faces for most of them.
EDIT: I just worked out each dwwarf - weapon is about 15mls. That works out about $0.50 NZ per miniature (~0.25 pounds) I now have about 9 of the guys. Tomorrow I’ll cast up a bunch more and have a good sized unit. I still need to make the molds of the otehr 2 guys and the weapons yet.

I like them, i prefer the ones without helmets, the faces are full of charadter,
Great work!
