[Archive] Best Bull Centaur bottom halves?

Groznit Goregut:

Hello All,

I realized I have a bunch of Bull Centaur top halves (the top half) and only need bull bottoms to finish them. Anyone know the best way to get some on the cheap?

I know tjub has done his out of BfSP ponies, but is that the best method? Especially with them on larger bases.

3rd party products are fine, too.

Much thanks!

Thommy H:

Chaos Knight horses without the heads? They’re bulky enough and covered in enough armour to hide their equine proportions, I think.

Skink:

The issue with the pony used by Tjub is that it’s kinda small. Your BC torsos simply won’t fit on them!!! Plus, is kinda difficult to find ponies on the web, especially now that Battle for Skull Pass is not available anymore.

I think that your best option is to buy a BC on e-bay and cast it. You can also buy the Blood Bowl Bull Centaur star player on GW’s main website…

cornixt:

Weren’t the ponies in the dwarf miners box too?

The bull part has always been an issue for converting BCs, there just aren’t many bits that are the right size.

inkpwn:

Hassle free miniatures to a shetland pony, only £3 as well, I used one for a bloodbowl conversion a while back. It was large enough to not look out of proportion with a dwarf torso sticking out the front.

Snip off the head and tail and away you go.=

Galemathias:

The Rackham boars are a very decent fit with Chaos Warrior-sized torsos. Pretty bullish.

Great buy, been using boarheads for my fireborn, steamvents for my hellcannon, cannon for death rocket, main chariot body for magma cannon and; on topic: boar bodies for BC’s.

Shadowandflame:

I used plastic Horses of Rohan and trimmed a bit of their legs off, then reattached the bottom part of the leg and smoothed the transition with Green Stuff. They’re small enough to give a good, squat bull look and their smaller size fits dwarf bodies better, imo.

I got the idea from a different post (can’t remember who the credit goes to) but he used Beastmen legs. I recycled the horse’s original legs.

These were the pictures I used in comparison, when figuring out how much to trim off:

Let me know if you want to see pictures of how the bodies came out and I’ll see what I can do for you.

Hope that helps!

That is a very interesting idea, especially since Lotr boxes are quite cheap compared to Warhammer. Do you have photos? Did you bulk out the horse legs?

I didn't think I really had to really bulk them. Though, I believe the transition looks nice. Cutting away a bit of the horse's leg and then adding the green stuff made them look more squat and powerful, as a bull should.

Take a look and see for yourself:
(Sorry for not-so-high-quality photos)

You can see all five of them here. I made different poses, obviously.

A little blurry, but you get the idea/general shape.

Groznit Goregut:

Thanks all! I did get some official bottoms from Krea’s old collection that I bought. I’m good now!

Time of Madness:

The oop chaos barded steeds (which I think are the same as the current empire ones) work well.

Ben Saunders:

The horses made by Wargames Factory (in various cavalry sets) are often said by various people to be a bit small, so more like ponies. I’ve not tried using them as the basis for BCs, but it’s an idea I’ve had in mind for a while. Plus WGF are fairly cheap: you can get 12 cavalry for about £15 (that’s horses and riders, which may provide useful bits).

Admiral:

Shadowandflame, that’s clever. How do they fit with Dwarf bodies on top of them?
