The End Times came. With the best of intentions Astragoth, high atop Mingol Zharr-Naggrund, sold the Dawi’Zharr into the services of the Great Four. His great nation became another small cog in the Everchosen’s great machine. Unfortunately, as the Umgi say, the only thing good intentions bring is damnation.
The K’Daai Oracle of Daemon’s Stump bore impotent witness, and raged. He raged at the foolishness of those who came after him. He raged at Hashut for his absence. Most of all, he raged at his own forced captivity.
The Lord of the End Times’ thirst for warriors was endless. Hundreds of Thousands of Dawi-Zharr marched west to the destruction of the World-That-Was. Millions of slaves crashed through the defences of the Umgi, forced onwards by the lashes of their masters. Astragoth had emptied the Dark Lands.
The K’Daai Oracle remained. Impotent.
At the World’s End, the runes and wards placed around the K’Daai Oracle cracked and failed. In the last moments of the World-That-Was Daemon Prince Balhutti-Zhurekar drew about him a few remnants of the Dawi’Zharr and fled into the void. Those tortured souls at the Fire Prophet’s bosom knew only the eternal torment of His fiery form.
An eternity passed. The realms formed. Aqshy called to Balhutti-Zhurekar. This would be the realm he would settle his Dawi’Zharr. Now he could once again bid for ultimate power.
So the Age of Sigmar is here. I have taken this as inspiration to rebuild and increase my Chaos Dwarf army. I stopped playing Warhammer a couple of years ago, but now have found the inspiration to give it another go. I played a game of Age of Sigmar using Thommy H’s excellent War Scrolls and enjoyed it a lot. So here we are. This will be a Daemon’s Stump army, so will include lots of K’Daai and Infernal Guard, but less Hobgoblins.
I have done my first test base, but aren’t too happy with it. I think it needs toning down a lot.
Next up is 9 more bases to try and get the colours right.
It’s been a busy month. I’ve bee tied up with other things, such as the school holidays and my own summer leave. However, I’ve managed to get quite a bit done regardless. I’ve decided I want to tone down that base from the previous picture, and I’ve resolved to rebase my army and finish building the stuff that’s sat in bags for years. Here is a picture of where we stand now.
Still to build is 6 more K’Daai Fireborn, finish the build on my Destroyer, which is now just Green Stuff work. That’s done in a few days I have to continue the rebase. I’ve run out of round bases without holes, so now it’s time to fill in the slots on all those bases I’ve had lying around since I put my Sisters of Battle on resin bases. Joy.
Since Age of Sigmar released I’ve played 4 games, all using Thommy H’s rules from this forum. I plan on keeping a tally of slaves taken for Hashut here.
Game 1 - Lizardmen - Crushing victory for the Dwarves, many healthy slaves taken. Unfortunately the Lizardsmen do not survive long in the mines. Game 2 - Legions of Chaos (Nurgle Theme) - Another victory for the Dawi-Zhar, but no slaves taken. The corpses were burned and Infernal Guard set to watch for Daemonic infestation in the area. You can view this battle on YouTube by searching for Moarhammer 88. Game 3 - Western Dwarves - The Western Dwarves came woefully ill prepared. Bringing lots of infantry but few war machines. Their fickle Ancestor Gods abandoned them and many slaves were taken for the mines of Daemon’s Stump. Much standing was gained for the Sorcerer-Prophets. Game 4 - Orcs and Goblins - The brave Dwarves of Fire successfully repelled a Greenskin invasion led by Grimgor himself. The Black Orc leader was subdued by a regiment of K’Daai Fireborn, but when counting the casualties his corpse was nowhere to be found. The mines overflow with fresh Night Goblin slaves.
Future plans. Build, rebase, paint. I recently acquired about 40-45 big hat Blunderbuss guys, 2 big hat Death Shriekers, a big hat Mortar, 2 Hobgoblin Bolt Throwers assorted big hat characters (including Astrogoth, but missing his arms). There is only so long I will be able to resist building these guys. They are currently sat in Detol as they were painted in the colours of the 4 Chaos Gods.
I think you were on the right track with the bases, but you need to maybe smooth the transitions a bit. Go from deep red to white (via orange and yellow), but you only want to be adding white to the very edges, just to make it pop. My Chaos Dwarf blog in my sig has a post where I explain how I do mine - which most people seem to like!
