Bloodbeard:

Summertime is downtime for modelwork. I spend most of my time outside. But then my wife went on a trip, my youngest fell asleep inside and Netlfix insisted I rewatched Mad Max: Fury Road!

So I ended up opening up my Devils Run: Route 666 models. Really nice 20mm resin sculpts. I’ve put together my entire pledge. But today I’ll show of two models with minor conversion work.

I really like this game! The rules are free (with a mega advanced rules book coming).

War Rig
A massive resin model! 30cm long - 8 gaming squares. It fits an entire board. This was great, have only done some minor conversions and adds. Some weapon options, that’s not visible on the miniature from standard.

More armor on cab windows - chocolade box plastic.

Whalers harpoon - lollipop stick, perry miniatures spear and 1mm hobby chain.

.308 rifle in front window - perry miniatures black powder rifle.

Chains and armor on wagon. Made for better use of washes and weathering powder.

Magnets on crane and mega gun. Easier transport, can be removed when war rig is fielded without those upgrades.

Drilled holes in the cabs 8 exhaust pipes.

Skinners (war boys) - Trukk
Very nice truck model. Did some small converions and adds to this one as well.

A ramshackle miniatures (great 20mm conversion kit) resin gunner. Some chain. Corrugated armor plate from a pack of chocolate. And removed the double tires (model had double tires on the back - looked stupid).

Abecedar:

lovely work. Am old school Mad Max (being aussie) and Ive had a few favourite post apocalypse book series over the years and these bring back the imagination brilliantly.

Fuggit Khan:

Great stuff and great conversion bit details added as well. The War Rig is quite impressive…and big!

The more I look at these models, the more little details that I see and love…the Skinner Trukk looks to have a pit cage on the back of it :o

Are you going to paint the skeleton driver on the War Rig door, just like in the movie?

Bloodbeard:

@Abcedar: Loving Mad Max eh? You’re gonna love this update.

@Fuggit: It has a pit cage on the back - it’s for all the poor sould the skinners captures. It’s an upgrade in the game, works as a shield and protects the trukk from getting hurt by rear shots and ramming.

I’m choosing bald miniatures for the skinner vehicles (have to make a skinner car) and those will all be war boy painted.

The Law

One of the two factions in the main game is The Laws Haulage Company - The Law. They are all cop looking miniatures. I have a gyrocopter with a cop pilot as well. Gonna paint it in the same style, for some police air support.

I’ve gone for a Main Force Patrol theme. Painted on base on this awesome little movie from back in the day:

First step done. Only a couple hours of work here. Spray paint, one layers of colours. No highligts, no wash.

To do:

2. Step: Army Painter quick shade varnish and matt antishine varnish spray.

3. Step: Add blood, engine grease, oilspills, mud, rust. Effect paints and weathering powder.

Car, 2 x bikes and a buggy.

TheHoodedMan:

Great updates in here :cheers!

That truck is just amazing and the stripes work very well in your color palette.

Fuggit Khan:

I have always loved the Main Force Patrol (MFP) cars from Mad Max. Really cool to see them brought to life in these paint jobs.

The Law.

What a great name. Makes me think of Judge Dredd. And it fits perfectly for post apocalyptic warbands on the roads.

I’m looking forward to seeing some War Boys painted up!

Bloodbeard:

Thanks for the comments gents.

I have a diecast police car, that I’m gonna paint in MFP colors as well. Need one with more red on the back, like Max’s car.

Some 20mm Judge Dredd would be awesome for this!

Bane
Bane is a special character in Devils Run. It has a special rule “Mad to the Maxed!” and it’s modelled after Mad Max’s car in Road Warrior. It’s a KS exclusive model. Come with 4 car cards, so you can play the entire MFP gang from the first Mad Max movie if you want.

Decided to give it a cool flame paint job. Felt good. Long time since I’ve painted some chaos dwarf flames.

Still need quickshade and weathring.

Question: I want to paint the glass black. Thinking of giving it a layer of high gloss varnish, think that could work. Any ideas?

Those flames are ace!

Bloodbeard
I've found over the years that a nice effect is painting windows a very, very dark gray...then adding a semi-gloss finish. It works really good I think :hat off

TheHoodedMan:

Wow the flames look really good on that car.

I dont know exactly how to paint the glass surfaces, didnt try that myself yet.

But I saw some people using Tamiya colors (Tamiya clear red for example); if I remember it right it was applied from the inside. That looked great.

Abecedar:

I think it was Scar who did the clear red on the inside of the canopies

Bloodbeard:

War Rig

Finished up my War Rig for Devils Run: Route 666. Excellent model! CDO won’t show some of the pictues, really weird. Go to my gallery for the last ones: Here

TheHoodedMan:

The truck of death :hashut:hashut:hashut:cheers!

Jackswift:

The War Rig came out awesome. Love the conversion work on it. Digging the Main Force Patrol scheme as well. The models all look great! How does the game play?

Thank you Jackswift. The base game is super simple, and the rules, stat cards and even printable boards are free. Can be downloaded right here on Wordforge Games website.

Rules simply put:
It's a d10 system. All rolls is to roll on or below a skill. Like BS 7, meaning you'll roll 7 or less to hit with a gun.

Players alternate to move one vehicle. When all vehicles have moved a turn is over. You roll for initiative for who moves a vehicle first.

All vehicles have a minimum movement (often 2 or 3 squares) that they must move every turn - because the cars don't stop! And then roll for some additional d3 square that the can choose to move.

The map is 3 8x8 square boards in line. When a vehicle moves off board 3, a 4th board is placed and the 1st is removed. So the game is constantly moving forward. If anybody is too slow (perhaps from being wrecked) and are sill on the 1st tile - they are out of the game.

So scenarios will often force cool descicions. Run full speed ahead to grab checkpoints / objectives, move slower to get in good shooting positions or ram/push other vehicles to death or off the road.

A bike is super fast for grapping objectives and evade obstacles easy. But it's butter if run over by an armored car (which is slow).

With free rules, some toy cars and some Ramshackle Games bikes and trikes (15 resin bikes/trikes shiped world wide for 10£) - it's a super cheap game to enter and great fun!

WITNESS ME!!! I shall ride eternal shiny and chrome!!

I wish this was out back when I had all of my Dark Future stuff. I really like your War Rig it really looks like it means business.

I’ve put together a few 28mm PA vehicles but decent donor models are more difficult to find.

I think I might take a proper look at Devils Run. Thanks for sharing.

Fury Road has become my go to "what else should I do" movie. Check out Devils Run, it's great fun and such a cheap buy in.

Corrugated Metal
I'm always on the look out for tools for my hobbying and random scrap. As hobbying/converting/scratch building on a budget / from scrap has become my thing. I love it.

One night browsing the interwebs I got this torture device looking thing. ... A Toothpaste Squezer! It's a thing - a toothpaste squezer.

Well I ordered it. Below 5$ including shipping, you can find them on AliExpress or Ebay.

My favourite terrain set is Mantics Battlezones. It's excellent kits and all around 3'' tiles, that's put together in cubes. And the squezer is just the same size! Perfect.

You can run anything through this thing, thin metal sheets, cardboard, plastic. Today I reused a lid from a box of brocolli salad. twist and turn and I have 3'' wide 'currogated metal'l.

Perfect for terrain, vehicle armor, window shutters or even roman/greek pillars.
Since my deadzone / sci-fi board is an industrial complex this is perfect.
1. it lets me save the (not really that expensive) battlezone tiles.
2. lets me make rusted steel roofs on all buildings.

It'll save me a lot of money on buying something like this in real hobby plastic sheet.

Admiral:

VALHALLA! Excellent war rig and cars in general (particularly Bane’s), and that revelation on the toothpaste squeezer and Mantic’s Deadzone panels is ingenious. Highly clever, Bloodbeard! :hat off

Got to order one. Also I won’t need to squeeze out the last toothpaste by hand or cut it open with a knife for maximum yield…

Devils Run: Hells Highway

Currently (ending oct. 3rd) WFG is running a kickstarter for a standalone expansion called Hells Highway.

You’ll get a complete box game and a whole bunch of freebies. I’ve pledged for this. It contains a high amount of models for the price. It also contains a bunch of freebie card for extra vehicles, giving you card for some homemade cars and conversion potential.

The first Devils Run kicsktarter has been one of my best KS experiences, with WFG being really great publishers.

Check it out for some 20mm mayhem

Bloodbeard:

Working away on all my dungeon interior / treasure etc. Made some cobblestone work on some bases and had a bit of extra greenstuff mixed.

Then a friend came by for coffee… so the greenstuff was almost set.

Then I remembered I’ve bought a set of rubber molds from Greenstuff World. These makes different kinds of screws, bolts, nut, rivets in a lot of different sizes. Nice not wasting greenstuff ever again - and perfect for sci-fi and post apo conversion work.

I’ve written the owner of Greenstuff World and try to get him to make a skull rubber mold. Imagine that. A mold for making different sizes and shapes of skulls from your rest putty.

Carcearion:

Oooh that does look handy, I never know what to do with that last glob of greenstuff. I discovered greenstuff world only just a month or so ago and I’ve loved everything I’ve gotten from them so far, especially their blue stuff instant molds (I have made a ton of replications of some particular bretonian bull bits). I think a skull mold would really be the way to go for left over medium though (especially if it was also a variety like the bolts) maybe I should also drop them a line about the idea.

I have to say I’m really impressed with the war rig! My favorite detail is the car chassis bolted to the top of the tanker! :cheers

It makes me pine for all the Ork looted vehicles I always wanted to make.
