Should be fine/readable so long as you identify them when you deploy them. I use skinny little models on 40mm bases for my Fireborn too and the extra real estate gave me some fun modeling opportunities with the bases!

Fluff says they’re bound fire daemons in a host form of metal, so really they could be a lot of things so long as the other player is clearly informed of what it is

I've both two models, and fireborn are pretty high in comparison to bloodletters... You should up them on their bases to make them enough high:)
And as fireborn are pretty thin, bloodletters would be ok.

I'd leave the sword if I were you. Just scrap the rune of Khorne on the hilt. if you want to cover the model in flames concentrate on the blade and the "fins" on forearms and back. that would look amazing :). Lastly, you can sculpt a helmet with a beard if you feel brave.

Yes definitely try it, but turn some of the ends of the arms into weapons, maybe using pieces of the swords, instead of all of them having hands

To my mind they’re far too small to be Fireborn. Your opponent would need to okay it in advance as it’s enough difference to mess with LoS considerably.

If you’re any good of a sculptor maybe you could try to add some flames to the model and put some spare bitz of armor if you have any so it looks more mechanic-ish.
As for the link you post Skink, the only thing i’m seeing there is an ordinary bloodletter on a 40mm base. Not convincing at all. But with some work on it, I admit the model could make a great fireborn.
