[Archive] Brush Slave #1 - Back to the '80s

Vash:

i have quite a few ol’ 80’s models… and i’m still waiting on a package with more.

does it need to be Gamesworkshop? or Citadel… or doesn’t it matter at all?

nitroglysarine:

i was considering a 'Hob-Goblin King' idea - inspired by Labyrinth :D

nitroglysarine
Oh, awesome idea! Hmm hmm.... ;)

tjub
........i'm kinda tempted to do it now. :D

Nope, any manufacturer you might like. This is not another Warhammer competition - but a painting challenge - so anything is allowed. And for the 100th time: IT'S NOT A MUST THAT THE MINIATURE (itself) ARE FROM THE 80's :D :D

nitroglysarine:

Damn, that horrible looking elf from mantic that i send to Tommy as a prezzie, looks likea good basis for a David Bowie style 'Hob Gobling King.

Dang. :-p

Thommy H:

I’ll send it back to you if you want…

nitroglysarine:

Thommy H
hmmmm, it is just soooo ugly though :~

Na, i'll make do :D
Chears though!

i know, i know. but i have so much stuff lying around that's as old as me or older that i have to start painting them or they'll get mad at me for buying them ;P... that the trouble for beeing born in '85 and having mini's from before that time.
i have a few pre slottabase slann models for example... and i'm waiting on a MERP fellowship of the ring boxset (with box and all.... for less then 20 pounds shipping included) which would also do great for this challenge. although the postal company is going on strike this week so i might not get it in time.
i also have some old chaos snake men, a whole load of unpainted slann from 3rd edition and there might be more in my room somewhere.

i just don't have the time to convert something into an '80ish era icon at the moment, so an actual '80ish model(s) just have to do.

clam:

Well, it’s totally up to you - it’s just if it was a problem for you getting a 80s miniature - I felt I should point out, that it’s not a ‘must’.

G.2:

I wasn’t going to post my entry until I have finished my “unit” of minis. I want to paint these ‘progress’ shots, which will be replaced once I have finished my unit.

I wanted to post these guys early because:

1. They are NOT citadel miniatures (they are actully from Eureka here in Australia)

2. They were NOT made in the 80s (I don’t think). But they do represent soldiers FROM the 1980s.

Here are the ‘in-progress’ photos.

dncswlf:

Awesome! Soldiers from where?

clam:

They are Eureka’s 1980s Soviets - and looks very good G.2.

G.2:

Yes indeed they are from Eureka Miniatures here in Melbourne. I am extremely lucky to only live about a 10 minute drive from them.

I had better mention that the Mech in the background is from the AT-43 Range by Rackham, it is a Red Blok Kolossus. And it is also fair to mention that I DO NOT live 10min from Rackham.

Here is link to Eureka ‘80s Soviets’ Range.

I am painting these, in amongst painting my WHFB Empire army, which is my main project.

More photos when get more painted and based.

warh:

I won’t make it in time if I go with the idea I got now:(

so plan B is this:

Ral Partha dwarf

It reminds me of the heavy metal from the 80s

so if I skulpt some large shoulder pads on it, may I enter with it?

clam:

You can enter whatever you want as long as you finds, that it’s within the overall theme. People will then judge it - when we open up the poll. People will be asked to vote for the entry they think did the best interpretation.

cornixt:

Not so easy running a comp is it?

Obsidian:

It’s no comp…

This message was automatically appended because it was too short.

clam:

That’s right, Obsidian

This is very laid back - quite an easy ride, really. No strict rules or shiny prizes to get fussed about, just a small friendly challenge.

And after all, this is a friendly community, you know - so can’t be a surprise that people are nice and polite

This is what I really like this about this painting "not-comp". :)

Pyro Stick:

Its a shame i broke my camera because i would have really liked to enter this. Great motivation to finally finish my juggernaut. Actually its probably best that i cant enter because i probably would have bought another mm90 mage lol.

Blue in VT:

:hat off

greetings all…so I found some time to get my 80’s entry finalized…I chose one of the classic GW CD sculpts…and one that will fit fairly well with my MM90’s.

So i present you with Ori Pointed-Beard in some really RED armor

A big thanks to dncswlf for the shield…I know it belongs on a MM90 but I think it works well for Ori too.

Cheers,

Blue
