[Archive] Bull Centaur base size

Marduk:

I am planning to convert some Bull Centaurs but I am unclear about the base size. I can’t find the information in my Tamurkhan book.

Would someone please tell me the correct base size and source?

Thank you in advance.

fattdex:

50mm, was replied to a CDO forum member from forgeworld via email. Read it here somewhere, not going to search for it.

Nicodemus:

Take a look at the Legion of Azgorh Bull Centaur Base Size for everything you ever wanted to know (and more) about your query!

Yes, FW has repeatedly said in e-mails to forum members as well as to me personally over the phone, that 50mm was the size they were going with. It sounds like their responses have been firmed up and FW has been stating for several months now in no uncertain terms, 50mm is where they’re going.

The above link also has a poll, it’s interesting that 50x50 is the least popular (not counting the nonsense cupcake option and the ‘other’ base size). Although taken in the context of the 4th ED bull centaur models, 40x40 looks like the best option, we’ll have to wait and see when the FW BC’s come out, another poll at that time may well see a big shift to the new size, in support of new and larger models.

I stuck with the non-committal scenic Temple entrance base, which fit all 3 combinations of bases, 25x50, 40x40 and 50x50, as per my diagram:

Da Crusha:

really, 50mm!?! that is really big for a 2 attack creature.

Thommy H:

But not for a 3 Wound creature, which is the usual basis for such things.

Da Crusha:

well even 3 wound creatures are usually on a 40mm base. and they have 3 attacks also.

Thommy H:

I think the thread Nico linked has some surprising examples of 50mm bases for monstrous things, actually. Personally though I agree that it’s all a bit out of whack - Wounds and Attacks should be the same unless there’s a good background reason.

Da Crusha:

its so weird, I hope it gets FAQ’d or the models get made soon. I just want something definite since Im a frequent Tournament goer. picking for myself I would much rather go with 40X40, I have lots of those sitting around and barely any 50mm bases.

then there is also the footprint. a Tauruk on a 40mm base could move through cd units while on a 50 he wouldn’t be allowed. I would assume renders and tauruks would be on the same base so they can be fielded together without looking weird.  with that in mind it is almost entirely safe to say BCs will be on 50mm bases.

not happy about that…

Baggronor:

Bloodcrushers are 2 Wounds and on a 50mm. But then, how often do you see them :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I hope they put K’daai on 40mm bases or my unit is going to be pissed off… I bet they’ll be 50mm…

Baggronor
haha, yeah me to. I would hate to rebase mine.

Nicodemus:

There’s no denying that larger models, on larger bases, is more of a spectacle. FW is well-known for this, but GW is definitely heading in that direction. Of course the basic infantry models will still be on 20 or 25mm bases, but base sizes are steadily creeping up elsewhere. Arachnarok spider or K’daai Destroyer, anyone? Even in that post above, a lot of models that used to be on 25x50mm bases or 40mm bases have been moving to larger base sizes. As I don’t follow any other armies all that closely besides CDs and Warriors (and Daemons) I wasn’t really aware of how much creep there had been over the past decade.

Marduk:

Well, I read through the linked thread and through all of this one and I am more confused than before. Thank you!

I’ll probably do the Fireborns before worrying about Bull Centaurs. Hopefully, FW will come up with a model soon.

vulcanologist:

Hmmm… In the process of doing mine on cavalry bases. Are you swapping yours in your new rules Thommy??
