I love my Bull Centaurs. They look scary as heck on the field and they’re darn hard to kill! Most often I run mine as a group of three with full command plus a character so enemies have a hard time with them. Having only a champion and a character to swing at, or just one if the other challenges, really helps mitigate attacks at them. But after running the numbers, for the cost of that Bull Centaur hero, I could field another SIX centaurs! So now I’m asking myself - what can he do that six more centaurs can’t?! Is that extra point of leadership and the ability to carry a magical weapon worth adding 18 more wounds to the unit?! I hate to say, I’m thinking the answer to that question is ‘no’. Has anyone else pondered this idea?
I love my unit of 6 centaurs. Greatweapons, full command, and gleaming pennant. Quite the unit to deal with of you are on the other side of the table for only 330 points. I’ve never really considered putting a hero in them, only as an painting/converting option.
A Tauruk is concentrated power. One of the tactics of battle is hitting hard in a specific place. If you want to hit very hard without having a wheel six of these huge models around, then he’s your guy. You get to decide whether that much hitting power is required though, a waste of points buying a sledgehammer to crack a nut, even more so if he becomes a cannonball magnet.
Never having played the new list, but planning to make some Bull Centaurs as a modelling/painting project. Is there a reason to ever take them? 2 attacks on a 50x75 base…whew that seems just flat out awful. Don’t understand why the coolest thing in the army is so bad.
Maybe take 3 so you can take the hero? Just speculating and maybe I am wrong.

They are better than on paper, I promise you. I love the this unit, under Ravening Hordes I had 22, so I bring them cos I love them (only 6 now). but they still shine T5, S6, save 3+ is great.
If I could take the Bull Taruk without the Centaurs, I would happily do so without question. He can do what the unit does, only better. 4 Attacks, S7 re-rolling successful ward saves will put a dent into most things & he can have a 1+ re-rollable AS. With T5 & 4 Wounds, he can take on high Strength elites (Bloodletters, Hammerers, White Lions, etc on his own).
Combining him with the K’Daai and/or a 5+ Bull Centaur unit makes for a very strong hammer.

he can't join kdaai because of the unbreakable rule, otherwise I agree with you, I would consider him if I didn't have to bring the Bull centaur renders.
Bull Centaur Hero gives you some interesting options that 6 centaurs not.
For example, Stubborn, thanks to Command Crown.
… anyway, I still prefer BC in units of 3. 135 points for a resilient flank support unit (a pair of those units, of course). And yes, they are better than on paper. As all units in Warhammer, you only have to find the way for use them (like K’daai… after playing with them several times, I love them, and they are also better than in paper).

Agree Taurk seems to be one of the strongest heroes in the game.
