I have officially opened up My Shapeways Shop, and created (with the assistance of Admiral and t5p1ny) my first few designs and posted them for sale in whatever formats I could wrangle them into! I think the best items are the quad plates since you get more usable pieces for your money.
Here is a sample of the kind of items you’ll find in my shop:
I hope you guys like what I have so far! My goal is to get more designs and ideas from members of the forum. Please PM me or post here if you have any designs, ideas, requests, or advice! Thanks guys!
I don’t know how expensive the material for the printer is or how many work hours are in the design. But it’s a very pricey, little piece of terrain. Considering I would want between 4 and 6 to make a larger themed terrain piece.

Yeah, I am currently unhappy with the prices on Shapeways myself :(
You see I don't have a 3D printer or access to one myself - that actually all takes place on the other end. Unfortunatly of course that means they set the prices, as of this post I have just lowered the price to as low as the site allows me to place it and still earn anything (I'm looking at earning 50¢ per sale on the Obelisk for example). Shapeways while highly convenient takes allot of control out of your hands, I think some of the small bits (particularly the quad plates) are doable - but I am looking at alternative means of 3D Printing / Production right now (especially for terrain pieces - I am drawing up plans for a Shrine and even a Ziggurat which would not be feasibly priced on Shapeways).
The large pieces like obelisks are of course too pricey, but casting can take care of that. The rune plates, on the other hand, are fine. Small bits can still be carried on Shapeways in the future, larger stuff finds another outlet. Great start!
These are looking great! I second the suggestion to cast them to bring down costs. I remember seeing a huge 1/72 scale Robotech/Macross Koenig Monster model on Shapeways that was listed at something like $25,000.00 to 3D print out. More than slightly ridiculous. Cheers!
So! It looks like I jumped then gun on allot of this stuff and most the items in my store have been taken down due to a lack of structural integrity… even though I tinkered with them for hours to get them to pass the integrity checks in the first place :mad (and their just simple embossed plates!)
but regardless I’ll keep you guys posted about what actually can be made, and hopefully we’ll have a few useful bits printable sometime soon. It may well be that Shapeways simply inst the way to go for these items, and I am looking at other 3D printing companies- as well as casting options- to have some cool bits made (at a reasonable price!).
Sorry for the let down guys
edit: please note this is an old post, as of 8/11/17 I am back up and running with a better material and better bits
Could it be that another material could be chosen and make it work on Shapeways?
Printability varies from material to material, depending on what you chose a flat plate could be difficult or easy. Printability has less to do with what shape you choose, but if it follows our material guidelines. Here you can find detailed information about each material’s specifications. 3D Printing Materials: Plastic, Metal, and More - Shapeways.
For example, SLS, Strong & Flexible if you followed the design guidelines, a plate could be produced and would be pretty durable. However, the risk would be warping.
Or if you printed a flat plate with Porcelain it would be very likely to crack just because of the physical properties of porcelain. We list all of these kind of factors on our material FAQ page, I would recommend taking a look.

Anyway, enthusiasm counts for a lot and you’ve already got nice rune plates. Some more tinkering and searching for solutions and you’ll find a way to get these out. Keep at it and good luck!
That is a solution I’m presueing right now actually.
I’ve found another material they offer which looks promising, but how it’s priced and manufacturing is different so I’m reformatting things onto sprues.
I didn’t wanna jump the gun all over again, so I’m gonna wait until I have a successful print confirmation on the bits sprue before I go any where else.
OK then! Well I have some huge news on the bits front guys!
I have successfully redesigned and printed a line of chaos dwarf style bits, I finally received the first run today. I moved to a new material which is stronger and has much-much higher detail! Its also (for bit sprues anyway) cheaper!
The “Frosted Extreme Detail Plastic” is kind of an off translucent white, which is why I have it posted photographed in front of some black foam.
As you can see the pieces are pretty thin
I am especial impressed with the small size and tiny details possible, I have taken this close up to show you guys how small the small bits really are. I think the smallest bits are entirely suitable even for conversion work on a miniature.
These bits are for sale in my Shapeways store which is now officially reopened! and I will also have a second wave of more bits up very soon! I am also still taking requests for designs, and if you can whip up a cool 2d design I’ll happily send you a run of them in exchange for being allowed to sell the bits in my store.
I don’t mean to toot my own horn guys, but I am super-super happy with these bits! I have spent ages and ages hunting around for lighting-bolt bits and things to use on my own, I will probably be my own best customer
Thanks so much everybody! and extra thanks to Admiral, Forgefire, and t5p1ny for allowing me to use their designs!
A package arrived in the letter box today. From shapeways! Big box for such a small sprue, but anyway it arrived safe and sound and well-packaged with bubble foam.
The contents are great. This will find ample use in my army. It’s a bit hard to believe that a rune I drew on the quick some months back has made it into a 3D-printed sprue. It’s the Nir-Kezhar sprue among the lot, and do check them out! Thanks a lot, Carcearion!

Looks great! Could be used as Blood Bowl turn/reroll counters etc as well. :hat off
Wow! Thanks so much for the order man! (I saw the sales, but I had no idea who had ordered them)
I’m really happy just to see them out and about! I hope you like them and can put them to good use (I also take requests if you have any ideas for other bits or tokens!) :hat off
