[Archive] CD Army Type

DeathRocketeer:

I was thinking about the uniqueness of how a Chaos Dwarf army operates (i.e. is it unique? if not how can we make it so without OPing?).

Now, I think the CD army is very unique, just not necessarily in how it functions.  The current way the army list is constructed we end up with a ton of infantry (like Empire and Dwarfs), a couple options for cavalry (like Empire), Potentially a large number of at least decent war machines (like Empire and Dwarfs), and Basic Lore magic (like Empire).

I guess that what I’m saying is that we seem to be a hybrid of Empire and Dwarfs, but will functionally operate on the battlefield almost identically to the Empire except for our lack of long distance infantry carrying ranged weapons.

Perhaps, in order to enjoy a more unique style of play, we should completely avoid long range infantry missile troops?

I think weaknesses are what really make an army interesting to play (i.e. Dwarfs are extremely slow, O&G’s are entirely unreliable, TK’s fail without a strong magic phase).

Maybe if we lack any ‘normal’ missile troops with more than a 12’’ range (we will need at least one other option besides for Blunderbusses), and restricted meat shield (slave) use, we would operate on a fine line between CC being a number one priority and war machine bombardment being a number one priority.

This way we would need our infantry to approach the enemy, while trying to balance keeping half of the enemy units just out of charge distance (to be hit with war machine and blunderbuss fire) and half of the enemy units in close combat, restricting choice unit movement.

If we also restrict anything other than war machines from having a high strength ‘knight killing’ profile, then I can see the CD army having problems with heavy cavalry and S4 missile troops.  And problems are fun. :stuck_out_tongue:

Any other ideas? Just looking for a discussion.
