[Archive] CD in G&F novel

ashur:

I’m surprised there is no more mentions to the Gotrek and Felix novel Road of Skulls.

Not only is it a great novel, but we get to see chaos dwarfs post-Tamurkhan style, their weapons and their weird relationship with chaos warriors.

As anyone read it? Any thoughts?

Dînadan:

I read it and didn’t think that much of it. It wasn’t a bad book, but it totally messed with continuity of the series and is impossible to fit within the series as had been written up to that point.

Herby:

I once was a great Dwarf fan. I had relatively huge army. I thought the Gotek & Felix series will be a great read. I really gave the series a chance. I still own the books 1 - 10. But they are bad. With every book I waited for more info about Gotrek. But they barely put some backstory of him in there and most of the time you are within the thoughts of Felix. Sadly Felix is the main protagonist. Gotrek is just a co-star. With every book I expected to get some more of Gotrek but I was always dissapointed. Besides that it’s always the same. Orcs, Beastmen, Vampires, Dragons, Daemons, grotesk abominations - they kill everything. And after countless times Gotrek tested the sharpeness of his axe with his thumb and sucked his blood I couldn’t stand it any longer. Ther series can go to hell. If there is any german reader here I gladly sell the ten books for a special price for a friend.

Forgefire:

Once youve read one Gotrek and Felix you have pretty much read them all i think. They are quite repetive!

Grimstonefire:

I’ve read it and thought it was very good as far a non bill king/Nathan long series book was concerned.

The chaos dwarf part is well written.

Which reminds me, I was going to adapt my book to make it tie in to be between giantslayer and zombieslayer? Whatever the next one was.

I think from memory I would have had to scan/edit/print 40 pages to make it flow seamlessly.

Orcslayer iirc. Zombieslayer was the last one in the main series before the End Times. Between Zombieslayer and the End Time tie ins was when they released Road of Skulls and a few others which didn't tie into the narrative that Bill King and Nathan Long wrote.

It is one of those novels where the main characters are overshadowed by everything that sorrounds them. The chaos characters are in my opinion the best reason to read it, and the chaos dwarfs are specialy welcome. A lot of characterization in a few scenes, and it is always good to see our armies interact with the overrall warhammer world.

Except now I regret we will never read a novel about Canto and Khorreg. They were a great duo.
