I think it's a good thing that it was hard to find nominations for categories personally. If it was really easy there would be no point having votes as we would already have a winner picked for each category.
The fact that it was more challenging than last year means that the overall standard must be higher so that few people stand out mountains above the rest.
Grimstonefire
Maybe it was harder because there wasn't as many great stuff as the year before? No offense meant to anyone here as there is some great stuff done this year, most notably the Word of Hashut e-zine.
But compared to the previous year where Xander, Snotling, Ishkur and many otheres were churning out cool stuff by the week then 2008 was certainly less booming. (sorry help me find the right word here!)
I don’t know, there are an amazing amount of blogs underway right now in the hobby section. In fact the entire hobby section has way more activity especially in the later half of the year.
am i missing something here... It seems that THT is darned upset about this... I mean its for a 48x48 pixel graphic on someones avatar.. its not like the winners are getting a Pot of Gold or something.. If so where is mine!.. I mean I think that the people who were nominated to to the vote greatly deserved it. they had done the things they were elected to. I think its cool that the staff takes the time to recognize their members for execilence.

I don't care about a graphic. I'm not even commenting about who was nominated. I'm speaking of not seeing stuff. And I've admited that I was mostly to blame because I didn't notice it. I've also stated we need to fix that. I'm not sure why you'd think anything else, as I've not stated anything to give anyone a reason to have any other thoughts..
So, I'm not upset about anything except at myself right now, for not noticing... KK?:hat off

Slightly ot: You are absolutely right. A lot more activity going on in the hobby section and there is some great stuff to be seen. However also a lot of new blogs these days go like this:
Hi, this is my blog, I'm planning this and once I got pics I'll show them here.
Why not wait with the blog untill you have actually something to show?!
Maybe I'm just a grumpy old sock but these things annoy me!

Currently, Obsidian, not to steal your thunder, but I think I have the 'grumpy old sock' moniqer completely tattooed on my forhead these days.. lol
It’s understandable; it’s growing pains. We are going from being a small site to a medium sized one.
My hope is that the community realises that everything the Staff does is for the betterment of the community.
My hope is that everyone, whether you have 1 post to your name or 4,000 is that you are treated the same, whether it’s the Staff or the community. I’ve been on sites where there was definately the have and the have nots; where there were two sets of rules. I don’t see that here.
What I do see are some concerns, some valid. There are some ideas that make me uneasy. I disagree with such as having a group select who should be nominated, the entire community should do it.
@Xander and Willmark: I know you are doing your best and do appreciate your efforts, for without you (and other of course) there wouldn’t be this great forum! But lately there are a lot of posts that seem to be just there to add to one’s postcount. Everybody does post some comical off topic answers here and there now and then (me included), and that’s perfectly fine. But it seems to me that lately there are some members to exagerating this a bit. You don’t have to reply to each and every topic just to have said something. I’d rather see a topic with 5 good solid replies than one with a hundred Ooh, yeah great I love it replies. Hope you get what I mean…
Again sorry for the off topic, I’ve said enough for now. (having quite a bad day so maybe that explains! )
I have received some really good suggestions from clam and two heads talking about how we can improve these awards (and other aspects of the forum/ site), so if anyone has anything they want to say privately all the staff have an ‘open door’ policy… Open inbox? You know what I mean
We will sort out the issues in the staff section then try and improve the areas that need it. Obviously the issues for the awards you will only see the changes this time next year, but other things we can sort out in the coming weeks/ months.
Grumpy old socks? Never heard that expression before. Have a beer :cheers
@clam, I think you summed up my feelings but with less lemon in it.. lol

Have had a rough week until now - and a few comments in this thread just pushed the wrong button, today. Still mean everything I have said, but I might have poured some sugar in it - if I had waited a few hours. Done is done - I have made my points - and then cleared out a few issuses with, Grim :)
So I will be looking forward to upcomming award shows then - and in the meantime - go grab myself a beer - to Grumpy old socks :cheers
