You are free to make your own cdo t shirt but selling them is a no no. We did make them in the past but ran into certain… issues with that. Hence the reason you can’t find the thread.
Yeah, you might have to get one printed up yourself, either by an online T-shirt store or some other method (my sister made me some with paper that you can iron onto a shirt).
What kind of issues? I have this dream that we ‘in a distant furture’ would be selling certain kind of merchandise (mugs, hats, T-shirts etc.) and maybe even some CDO exclusive miniatures? But thats a ‘no, no’? Says who?
I remember the T Shit it was cool, i am sorry to hear i wont be able to get one but that does leave it open for me to do mine own Will have to get one sorted for next games day

clam
I can see the miniatures working, lots of companies sell them, but the shouldn't look to closely to GW's cd's
Without going into too much details there were “issues” last year around this time with IP of GWs. It was around this tomecwe adjusted a bunch of things.
In order: TB - don’t know that’s what we were doing previously.
Clam- as far as I know you can’t really it’s two words that are common everyday words. Say for instance dakka dakka much different world there. Problem is that GW pRobably would win on such matters bit they have much depper pockets then almost anyone involved in this hobby.
So they are “Discontinued” mainly to the “restructurning” of the original CDO into the current CDO…and because you don’t want to run the risk of further GW investigation. Sort of the same reason why we can’t post stats, pics of GW art, …that sort of thing. (Why take the risk?)
The actuall “Chaos Dwarfs Online” part of the shirt isn’t the problem, but using certain elements of it are. Am I correct?
It’s not so much the restructuring of the website that caused us to discontinue them, so much as the reasoning behind it. GW legal had stated to remove everything and we even had to retroactively remove (rather, Willmark did) pictures of CDO members in their shirts from an issue of WoH, showcasing them. Having said that, I recently found mine after it had been missing since Summer (turns out, my mum had washed it around the time I left for uni and didn’t give it back during Christmas!), so am proud to have it again. If you want to see how it looked, then I can PM a picture.
Also, of note: there are no problems with creating your own CDO shirt, as long as you have Xander’s permission (which is likely the case, but nice to check first ) and as long as you don’t try to trade them in any way on the website. It’s a way of showing club membership at tournaments and the like: much like Xander is going to the GD as the head of CDO, with CDO being a club.
I shouldnt be to difficult to do a legal tshirt we can get a way with, there were evil dwarfs long before GW existed. and even in case of troubel if you only sell whitin the forum at cost (no commercial value) there should be no issue.
having said all that, I dont really get it, any publicity for GW is a good one, if you design your own shirts it still spreading the word of a brilliant hobby whats not to like fot GW??..
if you only sell whitin the forum at cost (no commercial value) there should be no issue.
There shouldn't be, but there was :~ as that's what we were doing. We failed to realise GW own the universe and everything in it. And the copyright to it too.
TB- your correct to a point. The issue is that GW has far greater legal resouces then we do. However if someone wanted to challenge them they could do so easily. GW is on pretty shaky legal ground to a degree.
The other aspect of this is damages. What could they hope to recoupe? Shirts were sold at cost, + plus shipping then factor time and material for mailing, gas to the post office… On top of all this they would have to show it harmed sales. Sales of what chaos dwarfs exactly?
Then on top of it all the site owner lives in Canada, the server is in the US and GW is based in the UK. Different copy write laws in each case.
In short it’s not worth their time and effort. For us it’s not worth the hassle either.
So if you want create your own shirt, as a site we cannot endorse it, again it’s not worth the hassle. My guess is that it was about trademark protections you have to defend them or it becomes null.
All this said I’m not a lawyer and I guess that even a lawyer would be hard pressesd to sort out what I described.
In closing we abide by their wishes and hope for the best.
