[Archive] CDO t-shirt?

Carcearion:

So I recently started watching rough rider wargaming battle reports and noticed one of the members (an abyssal dwarf player) waring a chaos dwarfs online tee! I also don’t recall having ever seen his army on the forum:

Anyone know where to get one of these or where it came from? Lol and just as curios Dustin you a member here on the forum?

:hat off

Nicodemus:

Woah, t-shirts… blast from the past. We had offered them for sale ages ago but they were swiftly discontinued when GW legal descended on us in the mistaken belief that CDO was profiting from their IP.

Carcearion:

Aww that’s disappointing :frowning:

Hmm… well luckily having my own custom shirt made is pretty cheap and easy. Can anyone tell me what the CDO font is? (or better yet provide a link?)

Pyro Stick:

I think its this font called Requiem. I used it for the chaos dwarf dice and its used in a lot of the old forum avatars as well:

Requiem Font · 1001 Fonts

this one?

Didn’t see your link :stuck_out_tongue: might have to remake my picture :stuck_out_tongue:

Carcearion:

Thanks very much guys! :hat off

If I actually do get a shirt made I’ll post it up here (and if I can find somewhere to make a decent one for a reasonable price maybe I could offer it up as a contest prize).

I have long envied the old guard CDO Avatars, and if no one objects I might take a moment to make one of my own in the classic style.

Wow! Yes I know where they came from: I made those about 7-8 years ago. As noted the ass-hats at GW sent the legal vultures, hence no more t-shirts. And I why I think GW can piss off.

Mine however is hanging up in the man cave as we speak.

Enjoysrandom:

the CDO shirt is garb fit for a sorcerer prophet!

not to mention it would make a great prize for a Golden Hat!

Willmark:

As always when this comes up: if someone wants to create their owm shirt they are free to do so. CDO cannot endorse the sale of t-shirts.

Even when sold at a cost (as ours were) GW will have a hissy fit.

Enjoysrandom:

its such a shame that Games Workshop have such a great Intellectual Property that they almost go out of there way to discredit.

If they supported the fandoms they created, no one would support the smaller companies that imitate the GW range…

Should be a legal ruling that if you cant continue to produce the IP you created, then after a certain number of years it should go to public domain, or after 30-50 years the license should end… something like this…

With that being said AOS has had more sales in its release year than WHFB saw in the last several years before being discontinued… so that might be a nail in the coffin for the Dawi’Zharr of old.

Come on fellas boycott them sigmarites!

I don´t know, I can actually see where they are coming from. I mean, they are not the only one, EVERY company protects their IP fiercely, and rightfully so. Besides, there are plenty of online shops that can produce custom t-shirts for 20 bucks including shipping, so it shouldn´t be difficult to have one printed.

Now please, please, please, keep this about CDO t-shirts. AoS has nothing to do with them, and quite frankly I can´t stand other AoS rant thread.

Enjoysrandom:

Hey I was talking good things about AOS and bad about sigmarites…

With one of these shirts even they might get some style…

Willmark:

The version that one chooses to play is the right one for them. I personally do not play AoS but I don’t go out of my way to scorn those who do. Hell, I play 3rd edition,w hat does that say?

Bottom line is GW chose to do what they did knowing full well it would fracture the fan-base.

That said lets get this back to its subject matter of t-shirts.

Carcearion:

On the subject of T-Shirts, GW actually lost all claim to general terms like Chaos and Dwarf and so on a few years ago. Today they don’t even have a hold on the term Space Marine. I think the sites ability to sell T-shirts simply stating its own name, is unchallengeable.

The design above has no GW trade mark characters, names, or images. It is simply the name of a website which GW does not own.

I think it might be worth considering bringing it back considering the court ruling, the explosion of countless third party companies, and the changes inside of GW that have happened in the half decade since.

Willmark:

GW has zero chance of making an IP claim on chaos and dwarf stick. What they are counting on is sending C&D and getting compliance. I make enough $ now that I could take them to court but for what? That assumes I care enough about them which I don’t.

GW has nothing I want or need now; and has been that way since around 2002.

For all I care they can pound sand. What I do care about is making sure CDO continues.

Skink:

Guys, it is really simple. Download the font that Pyro has posted earlier, write “Chaos Dwarfs Online”, save the file as Jpg or similar, and have it printed on a T-shirt by one of the gazillion online shops that exist on the web. Including postage it should be something like 20 bucks or so. Why do you want to push for group sales? Best case scenario you save 5$.

Admiral:

Yeah, it’s really simple to get custom T-shirts done these days. Plus you can tailor the motif as much as you wis to your heart’s content.

Makes perfect sense, sorry I never meant to suggest the forum enter into a legal battle with games workshop- I was just saying maybe with all that has happened they don't roll around slapping C&D's on every little thing these days, and it?Ts something we could comfortably do. I thought it would be really cool to have some CDO merch, and didn?Tt wanna give up too easily on the idea.

Yeah I agree, but I don?Tt really feel like any interest there is in it is to save money- there is some special appeal to "Official CDO Merch" though (at least to me), I think it would feel more like piece of the community then just having your own done.

Maybe a good way to do it would be to dig up typical specifications for screen prints (at various sizes) and cobble together a file that people could share around and take to their local shop or throw at an online seller. We have quite a few graphically inclined people on the forum, and also a few artists that have made some great fan art that would look great on the back of a shirt or as a breast pocket logo (Forgefire and T1p1ny spring immediately to mind, permission granted of course) after being properly formatted.

It could be a really fun project if people are interested, especially if anyone had some fun t-shirt ideas. I think the CDO emoticons (which I am personally very fond of) could be used in several fun breast pocket type designs.

OOooo not to mention Malorndk's banners, they would look great as breast pocket type design as well.

Carcearion:

To spitball some ideas, here is a rough draft I whipped up pretty quickly…

Its 4" by 4", so it would pretty well fit in the “left chest” or breast pocket type area

EDIT: something like this is probably better for that kind of space, more logo-ish

More Edits: Hmmm… not stylized enough, the classic pixel emoji looks pretty good though

Yet More Edits: Highly stylized version

Carcearion:

Hmm… it occures to me we are more of a black t-shirt crowd, I have versions of these guys with transparent layers so they could be put on whatever color shirt, but black requires a little extra outline.

EDIT: the top of his head was bugging me
