[Archive] Chaos Dwarf Bloodbowl miniatures removed from Games Workshop's website

Admiral:

Prior to a co-op order from GW along with some friends I scanned the Mordheim and Blood Bowl sections to see if anything from there could fit into the order. Sadly, GW seem to have removed the Chaos Dwarf team as well as their Bull Centaur hero from the web shop. Since the Chaos Dwarf Team page remains (without figures) there remains slight hope for a return, but likely we’ll have to count them out, the last big hats to leave the stage.

Do you think there’s any chance for their return, or the Finecast return of WHFB big hat Chaos Dwarfs?

Thommy H:

Pretty much the whole Specialist Games range is being discontinued, since they don’t sell.

Grimstonefire:

Do you need the BC BB star player?  I have one I can sell you (new in box).

Yes, and that's a shame since there are many good miniatures in there. I've long had my eyes upon Blood Bowl, Mordheim, Necromunda and even Epic 40k miniatures for use in WHFB and 40k, but have only bought about a quarter of the list. Especially Mordheim contains gold pieces for any Empire player, and good stuff for Beastmen and Dwarfs as well. I guess it's best to buy the lot while it's available, lest one miss the train as was the case with the big hat range (available as separate miniatures and bitz back in the days).

Are some Specialist Games still thriving in the UK and elsewhere despite the low sales? It's quite common with converted Mordheim warbands made up of WHFB miniatures on Warseer, although sadly not with Battlefleet Gothic.

Otherwise, congratulations on having your book published! Given the quality of your Titan Wargames pieces I'll have to buy it later on, as I read through the current book queue.

I'm not sure. I'm in no hurry, since I'm merely stockpiling Chaos Dwarf bitz and miniatures for upcoming periods of hobby frenzy. How much would the BC BB star player cost?

wallacer:

Mordheim is quite popular where I live and Epic is still played as well.

I’ve never seen Necromunda being played.

Vogon:

Bloodbowl still has a pretty big following in the UK and there are tournaments held at Warhammer World though not GW run events.

I love Mordheim but it’s hard to find opponents in my area since moving the big games around here are WFB and 40K.

Back on topic this seems to be part of the GW plan to remove all metal from their products. If it’s not selling then it’s not going to get converted to finecast and simply get removed from the web store.

So if there’s anything else you want that’s metal get it now before it’s gone.

Cheers

Admiral:

Indeed. Damnably enough, almost all Blood Bowl products remaining on the to-buy list have been removed from the webstore. :frowning:

Soulassassin:

Jup, sad thing this is. I noticed that they were gone some months ago (from the norwegian site anyway)

E-bay or the highway it seems :frowning:

Zuh-Khinie:

While I ‘understand’ why they’re discontinuing BB (and the rest of the specialist range), I can’t help wondering if it’s a ood move or not. Bloodbowl is a popular pc game, which will get a second incarnation soon. If they’d just promote their range together with the new pc version, wouldn’t they be able to make some good sales?

Vogon:

Unfortunately (for GW) there are so many alternative suppliers out there selling great quality sculpts for “fantasy american football” tabletop games and they’ve not been supporting it for such a long time that anyone who still plays either has their teams sorted of knows where to source alternate miniatures.

I think it would be a poor seller these days.

Cheers

Zuh-Khinie:

True, but GW sells their stuff to kids most of the time. If they put up a demogame, backed with teams on the shelves and the coverart of the game on a banner beside it, I still believe they could turn a good profit. They won’t make billions, but they might win thousands with little to no hassle.

You might not buy it, I wouldn’t, but there are still enough shoppers who might. Don’t forget that not everyone finds his way to comixininos (being the biggest alternative out there), nor does comixininos supply decent models for every team (I still have to find a woodelf team that I truly find inspiring to collect). Also, some peolpe just don’t want miniatures that aren’t from GW to play a GW-game.

All it takes to sell is some effort, which is a resource GW lacks on some fronts, and there lies the biggest problem imo.

Fuggit Khan:

Of all of the GW spin-off/specialty games, I miss Man O War the most. I loved that game.

wiping tear from eye :frowning:

Zanthrax:

It’s a shame as converted blood bowl big hats make very cool ironsworn. I will have to rack down more bb hobgoblins for my archer unit.

I agree with fuggit that man o war is missed- we had the coolest ships.

Bloodbeard:

Blood Bowl is very big and continue to grow. There’s alot of firm that make great BB minis, so it’s no problem that GW stops producing these. With living rulebook 6, the game is very well balanced.

Mordheim is nice, with a lot of house rules. The vanilla game (in my opinion) is not balaced enough when playing campaigns.

The cool thing about both games is the small team/warbands. It’s relativly easy to convert og make your own models.

I’m currently working on a woodelf team based on Dark Eldar and LotR treemen.
