So with the help of very handy and comprehensive website tutorial and the CDO Wiki I was able to cobble together a Chaos Dwarf Name Generator as a simple html program. So far it seems to be working fine but before I presented it I wanted to see if I could add some more variety. So far I have used the names from all the characters listed on our wiki as well as well as the 4/5th Edition chaos dwarf name generator (also on the wiki).
What I was hoping to get from you guys is any names of Dawi Zharr that might have been mentioned in quotes in army books/campaign books which I don?Tt have access to. I know there?Ts usually quotes or stories and other interesting fluff things which mention the names of one-off characters which typically would not make it into a wiki. Also I?Tm open to fan made chaos dwarf names which I can chop up and toss into the generator.
Assuming people end up liking this generator I plan to also go on to make a Hobgoblin name generator, and a 2nd Edition style chaos dwarf name generator.
Very nice initiative! I hope the generator works fine. Here are some made-up ones. Some have been used in stories of mine, others not. Most all of them are quick spur-of-the-moment concoctions, though some were based on ones found in older background or ancient Mesopotamian names:
:o omg I came back to check on the thread and admirals post doubled in size!
Lol thank you very much though, lots of great material if you do add more please add a page break so I can sort it more easily and I’ll start picking through the extended list :hat off
Edit: Lol by the time I posted the above reply it had actually tripled or possibly quadrupled in size
Haha, thanks, but I for one would like to see a name generator if possible. Plus a generator won’t be unavailable at length. You could get all sorts of mad combos if the tongue-twisting material gathered is diverse enough.
Plus all names you’ve gathered, official and not, could be included as an appendix list.

I wrote the name generator as a quick and easy thing to fill out my Blood Bowl teams, it certainly isn’t gospel since a lot of the official names don’t even fit in with it. Think of it as a starting point towards what sounds right to you.
And a good starting point it is. So you’re the author of it? Neat! I always liked the word-parts you put into the generator tables. I hope Dracearion swallows it wholesale into his name generator.
It’s actually part of an Excel-based random name generator I made that has a few more options so i could seed it with more stuff. Here’s some output from it:
I love the title “Who Is Known” from Admiral! The kind of thing you’d give to the Dawi Zharr equivalent of a Kardashian. “He’s done nothing special, everyone just knows this Chaos Dwarf somehow…”

Haha, I hadn't considered that, but you must be right on target. Someone who is known to be known must be a case of empty fame or subject of gossip. :cheers
Still working on the name generator, its coming along quite well but I didn’t have as much time to goof off as work as I normally do so I still have quite a bit of work yet to be done on it. Also as of last night I’m officially on my honeymoon so I don’t foresee allot of time to work on it in my immediate future.
Cornixt’s name generator is not merely already included, but it was actually the inspiration for this project in the first place! my original version was pretty much 90% just his name generator. I had actually assumed it was a name generator from one of the old army books or from a white dwarf article it was so well done and official looking. Thank you so much for laying down the foundation Cornixt! :hat off
Although I think when all is said and done Admiral with have had as much to do with the final product as anyone, his names so far I think will account for more variables then your and my input combined (and I still have more of his stuff to add!) ;P
Glad people took an interest in the project and I hope to release the first version soon, every one is of course still free to throw in more names to toss into the mix and thanks again everyone! :cheers
I would really love it if people could play around with it a bit and share some of the most hilarious (I know it will throw out some goofy combinations from time to time) names they get! and also if anyone genuinely likes some names it throws out please share that to.
I’m open to feed back but please keep in mind my programming skills are essentially none-existent, making this much more complicated then it currently is might be beyond the scope of the fairly limited amount of time I can really set aside for this (for example I’d love to have a little button to toggle for female chaos dwarf names, but from where I’m standing now it would be easier to just make a whole separate name generator!). Regardless feel free to make any suggestions you want, (then I can prioritize what to learn how to do) but at this point some useful feed back I’m looking for would be if certain syllables or parts of the last names seem to produce bad names more often then good names and the two most important things im looking for are:
#1 Do you guys like it? #2 Would you like me to go on to make a Hobgoblin Name Generator in the same vein?
Edit: after testing out the link I thought I should note it seems like you’ll have to download it for it to work.
Chaosstep, Gothgoth, Coalchain, Coalglaive, Sternthroat… There are already some laughs in there. :cheers
Great work, Carcearion! Most randomly generated names seem authentic and outlandish. I guess if future improvements could be made, it would be to include options for longer names and put it on some website so as to bypass the need to download, but that’s far from necessary and it’s fine for sure as is. Just shout out if you’re going to collect even more names to mash into the generator.
A female CD generator would be great as well, and a Hobgoblin one, too. Got to sculpt for some tournament prep, but I could throw a bucket of Dawi Zharr woman’s names and Hobgobbo names and titles at you later on if you wish. Fingers crossed many more join in for lots of names and variation.
Alright so I have now completed the first version of the Hobgoblin Name Generator, I’d really like people to mess around with it and tell me what they think, share any suggestions you might have, and please feel free to share any cool or more likely (lets face it folks it a random name generator and its Hobs) funny names the generator spits up that you like
For those you playing around with either of the name generators I found if it starts spitting up too many results that seem too similar go ahead simply hit the refresh button, its seems to give the random function a new seed to play with and you should notice less similar results.
Something I would really like some advice for is that I am having trouble finding a place to host the name generators (I know having to download a html file is a bit of a pain, and is frankly a little weird) I’d much rather it was just a link to a working page, unfortunately I don’t really know anything about what I’m doing here and a Google search for ?oFree Website Hosting? has not bared fruitful results for what I’m trying to do. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.
Thanks again to everyone who gave me input, and gave me material to work with especially Admiral and Cornixt :hat off
BIG Update! I friend of mind pointed me to a site to host the Name Generators on! and after much fiddling I have finally gotten everything up and running!
Here is a link to the Generators! No more directly downloading an HTML file and running it off your desktop (like an animal).
