Mario:
I quite like the pose and statue he has, really looking very nice. Great work on the shield and mask bit for the shield.
May i ask what sizes you do for the wire body inside him?

Skalfgrimm:
Thanks for the kind comments guys!
There is not much new to show right now, I mainly did the rough body shapes of the next 3 dawi zharr. I am about to start sculpting again right now, so I´ll post updates when I am done for tonight.
@ Mario: This is how I make my armatures:
1. I use simple gardening wire. Take a fairly long piece if it.
2. Fold it in half and twist it. Remove the ends.
3. Fold it in half again and twist only the middle part. Twist it tightly, or else it will fall apart later.
4. Cut open the loop.
5. Bend the armature in the desired form and cut the limbs down to the desired size. Remember to leave a bit of extra length on the legs, to stick it into the cork. The distance between hips and shoulder is roughly 0,5 cm on my armatures. In the pictures the arms are still too long, but you get the idea.
@ clam:
It’s 08.00 a.m. CET and no updata? - you lazy sodI wish, I have horrible nightmares… everthing is green and looks unfinished… and behind the walls of reality lurks… something… I"! I"!
No just kidding. Glad to finally see that you can sleep - and the project didn’t get to you.
Mario:
Many Many Thanks for this
Danke sehr. Gut erklärt, das hilft mir echt weiter beim nächsten sculpt versuch.
Lordfishbane:
Leep up the great work, all looking aces
Skalfgrimm:
@ Mario: Keine Sache, gern geschehen.
@ Lord Fishbane: Thanks, will do!
Seems like I screwed up the scale there

Should not have looked at my slayers before, they have these massive hands as well.
Oh well, I´ll simply start over on the hand.
clam:
Helmet looks ace
I do like Dwarfs with big hands, but i this case, I think you are right. This one looks slightly to big. But I think you should be looking at older metal dwarfs. Real scale dwarfs??? Don’t think so. It’s a fantasy world after all
And speaking of scale - any chance we might see this guy next to a GW dwarf (maybe even an old 5th ed Big Hat ?)
Borador:
nice work once again, helmet is looking very good ;D
Skalfgrimm:
Ask and ye shall receive
I did not bother with proper lighting, but it works…
Sadly I have not one of the big hat dwarfs… but I have about 500 dwarfs of different eras, so that should help a bit.
Here we have the WIP sculpt next to a marauder musician, an original brewer, the Warhammer Quest Slayer, a current plastic dwarf, a 6th edition plastic dwarf and a 6th edition hammerer.
It is hard to see on the ruler, because I did not manage to keep the camera level, but both the hammerer and the green are exactly 23 mm to the top of the helmet (20 mm to the eyes)
Greetz, Skalfgrimm
clam:
Think that will do
- thanks, Skalfgrimm.
- and d**n he looks good in profile (the ruler pix) :hat off
Baggronor:
Interesting to see other people’s armatures; mine are generally less finely made ![]()
I like the sculpt, although I tend to make them chunkier; depends if you want a more realistic build or a slightly exaggerated one I guess (mine are a bit cartoony).
I wish, I have horrible nightmares… everthing is green and looks unfinished…You’re lucky thats in your nightmares, it is a terrifying reality for me. So… much… unfinished stuff…
Thorne:
Nice work very chaos dwarfy ironbreakery and with my collections of y I shall say if only my nigthmares were so cool !
Skalfgrimm:
@ clam: I am glad you like it.
@ Baggranor: I had a quick look through your threads and I really like your sculpts. I especially adore the chaos dwarf with mace.
@ Thorne: Cheers mate!
I know the updates have been slow the last week (by which I mean nonexistant). The reason is quite simple: Lectures at the university started again last week (I study biotechnology), so I have less time to sit down and sculpt. It is 4 am and I have trouble sleeping, so I reviewed my notes before I go into the lab later today and now that I am done and have some time to kill I decided to post a quick update.
I added ornamental arrows to the sides of the helmet and a little bag to his belt, plus I did some more work on the legs.
In the back you can glimpse the next things in line: an evil dwarf berserker, whom I envision to be abnormally muscular, no doubt a boon of chaos and his dark god, covered in scars and sores, his flesh pierced with talismans.
Also you see the raw body of another warrior.
And finally the one thing that kept me from doing much work on the dwarfs: an alien anti-grav glider I build for a friend. Nearly finished and ready for casting.
I don´t think that I will get much done the next week, I´ll spend much time in the laboratory monkeying around with hazardous materials- science is fun
Maybe I´ll find time on the weekend…
Greetz, Skalfgrimm
Zanko:
Great guy you make there, I like especially the helmet and the armour! :hat off
Really ace! :cheers
I’m eager to see this guy finished and painted!
:hashut
clam:
Helmet is looking ace :hat off
Almost ready for beeing mass produced
Only thing I would change is the bare shoulder, but that can be fixed with almost any plastic shoulder pad.
All-in-all great work. And now I’m looking forward seeing the next batch.
But dont forget to show him again - when shield and weapon is finished
Hazkar:
oh boy, this one is getting better and better
really like how the helmet came out…nice work
also the belt and the shoes looking pretty good
keep us updated and let us know where and when we can buy it
Skalfgrimm:
Cheers guys!
@ clam: I am considering shoulderpads… maybe if inspiration strikes suddenly
@ Hazkar: He will be available from Troll Forged Miniatures. I don´t really know when, but I hope it will be soon-ish.
Since today is a holiday I have some free time to sculpt. I am nearly finished with this warrior, just some bits and pieces here and there to do.
I was not happy with the shield I did, so he wielded a stand-in for this photo shoot.
Let me know what you think, your comments and criticism is always appreciated.
Greetz, Skalfgrimm
Mario:
He looks great! i like the axehead with the skull. I also think its great that he has a real body and statue somehow, not just a blob with feet, well done. Can we have biiiiggger pics?
Kered:
It looks excellent. I like the downwards arrows on the helmet/mask/big hat they are handy instructions on how to put it on.
Borador:
looking nice!!
about the pads: something like these guys have but then with spike studs?
or something a little more high tech?
(would be better for an inferno golem hinthint)
keep it up! :cheers
clam:
He really turned out nicly and hopefully we’ll see him with a few friends very soon. You have todo a few variants of this one - so we can field a unit of these Obsidian Guards/Immotals.
Whats wrong with the shield? The wood work looked so cool!
Thought abort doing a weapon hand variant? Would be nice with a variant or two.
Now go have a Happy Easter
