During the story it is constantly under siege from 10 different armies. One of which is mentioned as being Chaos Dwarfs. Besieging a gate with rockets and mortars and massed heavy infantry.

It does raise the question as to why take Praag? A foothold in the west maybe? It’s entirely unclear whether they are there working for someone else or on their own. It’s not exactly easy pickings for slaves with all the other armies and countless monsters occupying it.

Now we’ve got Korakkagrak with his lava beasts, a Warpstone meteorite shower over the Dark Lands and Chaos Dwarfs participating in an attack on Praag. We’re not forgotten, folks. On the contrary, it seems Games Workshop and Black Library are throwing us more bones than used to be the case pre-Tamurkhan.
Good thing CDs show up to join what is presumably a united Chaos force.

They are not a united chaos force, the Troll King describes them as 10 armies. It sounds like a lot of tribes all fighting to take the shelter/stronghold that Praag offers before they all die of the cold/starvation. Still not clear exactly why the CD are there, other than a base of operations presumably.
Perhaps the author is not familiar with CD background or doesn’t care, as long as he can make cool name droppings in battle reports. Happens a lot in weaker BL novels.
