I don't mind mate, he's entitled to his opinion!:cheers

I just came across these and thought i'd share them here. Apparently the guy is just learning how to sculpt. Not bad for a beginner!:hat off

Kera foehunter:

Da Crusha:

wallacer:

Dave King:

Hi all,
This is Dave King, Carsten suggested I pop by the thread and say hello and answer a few of your questions.  First up, thanks for all the crits and comments- I am not a miniature sculptor- I usually make 3D characters for games.
So, these are actually my first greens and where never intended for release- just a place to practice things like tentacles, pouches, faces, armour etc etc.  I just started blobbing putty on wire in some cork and went nuts- which is why they are quite flat and have whacky anatomy.

I posted these figures up on a sculpting forum for some feedback from the pros, and its just gone crazy.  I have had a flood of mail from people wanting the figures, and companies approach me about producing them.  Its just blown me away.
Since they where freeform, they are not built to fit in with any scale - they are 20mm to the eyes for the larger ones and 16mm to the eyes for the short one.  I only have a GW norse dwarf from 1987 here for comparison, and no, these look too big to match that.

Currently I am refining three of the figures (cause, yeah, they are rough as hell  ), rebuilding the standard bearer type from scratch and making up a fresh batch to round out the series.  Then they will be going off to production- but not as chaos dwarfs- for obvious reasons- but as part of a series of quirky fantasy personalities designed for collectors.

Since I am currently pushing putty around, I would love to hear any suggestions you may like to see featured in future figures.  Stack hats, chaos logos and curly beards are out of the mix I am afraid as it would be too close to GW IP- I am just here to make some cool fantasy figures for people to enjoy.
Right now I have a berserker, two headed freak, two more angel types and crow bearing champion- plus familliars that may be packaged with them.

Hope that answers everyones questions.

Cheers,
Dave King

We're all very pleased you could make it to the forum. Welcome, welcome! Very nice work by the way, you've obviously found your calling with 3-dimensional sculpts (virtually and in reality)!

Cheers.

This message was automatically appended because it was too short.

Dave King:

Oh, and dont let me stop you bitching about them just cause I am hovering- please go ahead all crits welcome!

Canix:

I think they are great ,good to hear you are modifying some to make the detail a bit sharper i would be interested in some too .They will fit nicely with the Marauders and 3rd ed,keep it up :hat off

black hammer:

They aren’t really my style but the sculpting looks great!

The Brain:

Hay Dave,

Any idea what company will be producing them and what countries they will be sold in?

clam:

Hi Dave,

Glad you did find time to read my mail - and took the time to stop by. Hope we’ll keep seeing you around here - and then please keep us updated one your project.

Suggestions, you are a brave guy …

Here are some suggestions about, what I would like to see … (I’ll try keep it short)

Complete command group especially some kind of evil musician

Heavy armourd stunties. Guys in evil armour that would fit in as ‘Immortals’

More mutated warriors (possessed)

Centaurs, mutated/daemonic possessed dwarfs with 4 (or more) legs

And then I would really like to see a smaller daemonic warmachine - a count as “eruption gun” or maybe something a bit bigger like a “death rocket” - with evil crew of course

and then (of course) - as always: a Mounted character. A Lord on some kind of evil creature - that would be so cool

EDIT: To give you an idae about the kind of Centaur I would like to see, you shold look at Olley’s Psychic Scrunts. I Would really like to see this ‘fantasized’:

wallacer:

Command Dwarfs would be good. Musicians and standard bearers, particularly.

Grimstonefire:

Hi Dave

I think you should consider doing some multi part models.

One piece sculpts are great for stability and a lot easier to sculpt, but you have to be inventive because of under cuts for casting.

Grimstonefire
One does not sculpt multi piece models, one casts multip piece models.

Just sculpt the models the way you intend to, and then see if it's nescessary to cut them up in mutiple pieces.

Grimstonefire:

Easier said than done when you’ve got arms welded into beards

I’ve always done it the other way around.

Obsidian:

Welcome! I hope you do not mind that I have posted these on here…

Dave King:

Ooh Obsidian - I love that purple / orange metallic paint job- I am so borrowing that for a few of my 1980’s chaos champions

Willmark:

Great stuff Dave, the staff will make sure everyone stays in line, if not let us know  all kidding aside you’ll find this a friendly forum and most people welcome criticism here; our only caveat is that its constructive. which I’m sure it will be/has been.

Staggering to think these are your very first try at sculpting… I look forward to seeing you improve and buying some of these.

Suffice of to say there is a huge demand for evil dwarfs that GW keeps neglecting. There is an opporotunity for you here methinks.

Dave King:

Thanks!

Down side of sculpting is I have to cut down on my coffee.

So the sculptings going well on the new figures - will have some pictures up soon.
