[Archive] Chaos dwarfs first day out

Skink:

Mh… Ol’N*7 is the perfect answer against Skinks isn’t it? Or maybe template warmachines such as the Deathshrieker? Otherwise direct damage spells should do the job nicely (what about Khans with ruby ring of ruin?).

These are my 2 cents. I mean, look at my nickname. I swear, I love and hate skinks at the same time, cause they can fare awesomely Or die in droves…

RedZeke:

Thought I’d give a nod- tried to take the list on with my dwarf list.

Runelord on anvil, balance, spellbreaker

BSB, 1+ re-rollable, flaming attacks, 2+ ward vs. flaming

29 Hammerers, 5+ ward vs. shooting, FC

30 Warriors, GWs, FC

33 Warriors, shields, standard, musician

20 Rangers, crossbows, great weapons

5 Miners, musician

Cannon, engineer, forging

Grudgethrower, flaming, accurate

Organ gun

Gyrocopter

The short of it was that the Destroyer ran right at my main lines, took two cannonballs, two organ gun volleys, and a wrath and ruin attack for zero wounds, then earned 1000+ points by going right through the hammerers, BSB, and great weapons.

The skullcracker took 6 wounds from a grudgethrower strike, and thinking I could sneak 2 wounds off the thing with the 33 shield warriors, counter charged it, getting wiped for my trouble. Quite a mistake here.

The gyro and miners combined to kill one Khan and chase another off, leaving a single crew member alive on one of the magma cannons. Probably should have kept the miners in my main line to use as chaff to delay the destroyer in the event that no shooting was able to damage the thing.

The other magma cannon survived all the volleys of fire from the rangers and 3 cannon shots to get finished by the anvil with wrath and ruin, and it wiped the rangers in return. Mistake here was that I deployed the rangers 10 wide instead of 20 wide to minimize damage.

Magic was minimal- with two fireballs going off on the rangers.

All in all, a very handy win to the Chaos Dwarfs. The skullcracker and destroyer would take my lunch money, and as slow infantry army, I had little chance of getting out of the way. In other words, the game was essentially going to hinge on whether the Destroyer made it into my lines unmolested- something I should have identified and used the gyro and miners to try to prevent for another turn.

Interested to see how it fares at Alamo. I think it’ll be more match-up dependent than most armies, so I’ll predict a 3-2 finish, with a couple losses to opponents that have the chaff or magic to pick up the wins.

Geist:

Report card time kiddies, for I have returned from the Alamo one of the greatest Indy Gts out there, where in fact yes you can buy a bonus to go first with BEER!!!

So yes the list did go 3 and 2 losses. Technically it went 4 and 2 losses as I gotta pick up game the Friday before things kicked off.

Game 1 The only other CD army there, and well his list was just plain wrong. Mine was nasty his was kick in your teeth take your lunch money.

2 lvl2’s of metal, bsb, 50 iron sworn, two khans on dogs, iron demon with no upgrades, kadaii, magma, magma, rocket, rocket earth shaker with orge. Needless to say I lost that game badly. Highlight I lost 13 guys from the dangerous terrain check when I had to move to get LOS on a target for magic phase, the check caused by the dread quake mortar.

Game 2 Beastmen, fairly normal beast man army, one big brick with general and great weapons, another big brick with two hand weapons and banner of +1 strength, 2 razor gores, 2 chariots 1 lvl 4 (in the unit with 2 hand weapons) 3 lvl 2s parked around the hearth stone, harpies and some skirmishers. I thought I did ok against him, but because I sent old #7 by itself into the great weapons, I didnt kill the brick like I could have if I charged it in the flank with my blunderbuss unit. So my second loss.

Game 3 was the best game I could ever hope for, and the worse match up anyone could ever hope for. Chaos Warriors, an all Throgg troll list. The only model not a troll was a chaos caster lord on a disk made to appear like a troll with wings. That poor sucker suffered the worse fate ever, first he got ash stormed, then I hit him with flames and he died. Rest of the army was just trolls, a 3 man unit, many many 3 man units. In the end it was just plain wrong. Aku killed his fair share and more.

Game 4 was against a local who was playing a fairl stock orc and gobbo list. 2 manglers, big unit of dudes with lord, giant spider, so on so forth. Nothing overly shocking. I made a small error in how I placed myself, so ended up with a win but not by over 300 points so he stole 2 of my battle points. A system alot of Indy’s use.

Game 5 Played against a very nice guy running an empire army that was just way too small and had about zero chance. Lvl4 lvl 2, 2 priest, bsb fighting lord, 2 cannons 2 blasters two engineers, 11 knights (one priest was on horse in there), a 60 or so of spear men, where all the other characters ended up. The new chariot thing that gives +1 casting dice and the ray beam thing chariot. I just rolled the poor guy. His list had no answer for the 2 monsters Aku and old #7. His mages both did shadow, he had one chance to toss pit at #7, which I then scrolled. Rest of the game I kept him covered in ash. Another soild win and another player I felt bad for, as I just rolled him.

Pick up game was against a french VC player, funny guy great to play against. Said to call him Frenchy. His army was lil odd but ok. 6 or so og the vargheist things (vampire monster inf), 30 something of guard with great weapons and +1 to hit banner, the engine (which ended up costing him as he did a misscast and rolled a 4 as one of his sets of miscast) failed to roll not a 4+. General dead. I forget the rest of his army but it was just ok, I think he had a small block of skeletons some wolves and a bunker of ghouls. It gets hard to rember all the things one has deep fat fryed with magma cannons LOL.

So all in all, great set of games, learned alot about the list, and already have a plan on how to make it better. 3 and 2 losses is very good for a first time out indy run. Really helped me stress test the list. Some more twinking and then its off to Lone Wolf in April.
