Pyro Stick:
The number one reason GW got rid of squats was....
They were just short guardsmen. And when GW decided to redo 3rd edition 40k, they did away with redundant armies. Of course at the same time, the brought out the Dark eldar who are just more evil Eldar. The reason?......
Because 4 or 5 dark eldar armies showed up in tournaments and were painted so nicely that the developers got a great idea. Scrap teh squats which don't sell well and bring in dark eldar, because ever eldar player will want to give them a go.
voila, at the end of the day, both armies never sold well and now you can't find either of them in a GW store. Somtimes you can find themin the bargin bin in an FLGS near you.
They easily could have incorporated some of the squats into a guard army, like the exo dudes and the bike riders, but ultimately their sales were so terrible that Gw say, axe em.. and they were axed.

Heres the reason for them being dropped, from wikipedia:
"A statement on why the Squats were dropped was given by games designer Jervis Johnson on July 28, 2004. In a Squat-themed thread on a popular Warhammer 40,000 message board, he posted an official response to the Squat Question. Summarising, Johnson said the race was removed from the Warhammer 40,000 universe for the following reasons:
* The designers felt that the "Dwarven" concept was not given justice, and that the Squats were more of a joke race.
* There existed a design disparity with the Warhammer 40,000 and the Epic-scale renditions of the race, which prevented there being a cohesive vision of the race.
* Despite the efforts of the design team, they were unable to think up ways to revitalize the concept.
Jervis Johnson's statement also confirms that the Demiurg began as an effort to re-think the concept of Squats, after their annihilation, and that the concept might one day be expanded on."
GRNDL:
I think i found the auction you won. It went for quite a lot! I cant believe the price of them, but i guess there was only the two chaos squats so they are probably as rare as the mm90 mage.
Pyro Stick
The auction closed for $23 US, which to me is a good deal, since modern day Citadel Models are going for $18-23 Cdn (About $15-18 US, I think) or so, so I don't feel ripped off on this one. I don't think I'll be making a Chaos Squat army, but I like the model and he'll join the ranks of my weird old model collection.
BTW was that you that one the last mm90 mage that was on ebay?
Pyro Stick
Guilty as charged. :) I am in the process of acquiring quite a few of the older range. The mage design got me interested in the older models. It was like a virus. I wanted to paint one up. It ended up being an expensive chunk of metal, but a good one. :)

I guess it was a better deal for you than it would have been for me due to the crappy exchange rate. Im not going to make an army of them either, i just wanted one of each plus one of the squats in exo amrour on a trike.

Are you going to go the Marauder route or the Citadel route? The exact same thing happened to me. I started of by buying a mage and i wasnt palnning on getting anymore but ive ended up with a complete mm90 set, which includes 4 mages and 2 mm90 crossbowmen. Im not a fan of the citadel named chaos dwarf so the only ones of those that i have are ones that have come with mm90 ebay lots. Im looking forward to seeing your take on painting the mage.

Yeah, that's the 'official' line. However, there is much more to it than just that. I've seen that wiki since it was released and myself and quite a few Gw staff (at a meeting in Glen Burnie) had quite a laugh because that was completely different than what we were being told.
Sometimes, it appears that Jervis has his idea of what's going on and then there is really what's going on. Just my two cents, I'm not trying to argue or debate it, suffice to say, I'm not buying his dance.
Thommy H:
Well what’s wrong with that response? It makes perfect sense - the Squats were never done in an interesting way, and they were cool in Epic, which wasn’t translated into 40K. Plus, you know, Jervis was one of the guys writing Codecies at the time, so I think he knows more about it than some random GW staff.
Also, Dark Eldar weren’t in any way shape or form a direct replacement for Squats (Squats never made it past the very early stages of Second Edition, Dark Eldar were introduced at the start of Third) and neither have Dark Eldar been phased out of the setting and killed off in the manner of Squats. Indeed, they’ll be making a return for 5th Edition in the not-so-distant future with a new Codex (unless I’m not up to speed on my 40K rumours).

Personally, I love lots of the older Dwarf range - the '85 CD range, not so much (no, I'm not selling the ones I have). My usual runelord is an old Dwarf Wizard.
Right now I'm trying to get motivated to model and paint "Inconvienced Dwarf" - gotta figure out how to model a bathroom stall on a 20mm base...

I think GW already did a dwarf sitting on a toilet. if you find a picture of it, it should motivate you rightly. In fact I think citadel miniatures has at least 4 different models with toilets on them.
Gaixo:
Getting pretty far off-topic here, but the “2nd edition” squat prototypes were pretty cool:

Now those will really cost you some eBay dollars.
Slightly more on-topic, the rest of the very limited chaos squat line can be seen here:

Border Reiver:
That’s the mini I’ve got. I just want a mini diorama on a base that can be incorporated into my army

Yeah i think those are cool also. They are more obviously 40k versions of warhammer dwarfs.
That second pic of a squat in exo armour would be another cool model i would like to get. Ill definately be looking out for it on ebay.

For the most part we were told they sold like crap and they were a redundant army. There were other flowery words and lots of grunting and snorting and knuckle dragging, but as I stated before, that was the "word at the regional level anyways...."
As for the two space dwarves with power axes/bolter set up.. with a few 2nd edition plastic weapon sprues, you could easily modify the new plastic dwarves to look just like them and save yourself a few hundred dollars.
in fact, I might just venture into that and do a IG guard army based off new fantasy dwarfs.. that is if I can find some fundage..
wallacer:
I still regret selling my Squat biker figures when I was a kid.
Swissdictator:
I could think up some cool conversion ideas, but I don’t know enough about 40k CSM.
Though it’s not a bad idea at all.
GRNDL:
So, I finally got my Chaos Exo-Armoured squat. Looks good. However, there was a slight mishap on transit and the package got munged in some kind of machinery. The machinery broke off both the horns, the slotta off the body part and damage the butt plate and feet quite extensively.
Does anyone have any photos of the back of the Chaos Exo-Armoured Squat (on the left in the pics above, with horns)?? I’ll have to do some GS reconstruction before painting him.
Revlid:
Squats were dropped because outside of Epic they were **** and uninteresting. I have much higher hopes for the alien Demiurg.
If you want real Chaos Squats, go here.
