[Archive] Cleaning partners

brotsorrow:

Last night i was shocked that my girlfriend helped me start cleaning my Iron Daemon. Even though she mentioned that she would rather be painting, it was nice to have a partner doing the tedious prep work.

Anyone else have friends/family that help them with our hobby? Am i wrong in feeling the time goes by a lot better having a “real” person to talk to while bi&^hing about FW molds?

Samanos:

Not me at the moment.

But yeah its better if you have someone to talk to while you clean/paint etc etc i believe.

khedyarl:

A few years ago I was desperately behind in painting a goblin army for a tournament. I had fifty goblins (out of three hundred and eighty) left to paint, and they were just primed. A friend of ours had lent us the Avatar box sets (the cartoon), and so I asked my wife to help me paint and we started watching Avatar. We went through the entire first season in that evening, and managed to get the whole lot done to… well, to a passable standard. heh.

A few days later we started season two, and she looked at me and said, "So that’s what the characters look like?"

Apparently she hadn’t looked up from the painting even once the entire time we were going. A real trooper.

Baggronor:

I don’t. I watch a lot of series while painting. Recently Ned Stark and Tony Soprano have been entertaining me while I paint. I should probably watch lower quality stuff though, I keep watching and not painting.

cornixt:

I can’t watch tv while painting, too distracting. I listen to music instead.

I’ve managed to rope my wife into the hobby, she is even in the process of sculpted me a Destroyer, although that has been put on hold since she didn’t have the time for the last few months.

Ovic:

My eleven year old son wants to play skaven, so we’ll paint 10 to 20 or so clanrats in a weekend, assembly-line style. It’s fun. I’m trying to get him to be more particular and detail oriented… and music, always, when painting. TV and movies are pretty distracting. I’m watching Ned Stark, right now, too, and I can’t take my eyes off it.

Marduk:

A few years ago I was in a similar situation as Khedyarl, trying to paint a Bretonnian army for a tournament. My wife helped me paint many of my models, and even my mother-in-law joined in and painted a few questing knights.

My wife painted my damsels and drew all kinds of details which I would have never thought about, including flowers on her dress.

Brotsorrow, my wife says that’s a sign of real love from your girlfriend. Don’t forget to invite us to the wedding.

Da Crusha:

my girlfriend has helped me get ready the nights before a tournament a few times. she helped me do base coats mostly. personally Id rather do painting and cleaning mold lines by myself with music. some guys in my gaming group want to get together and do that stuff, but truthfully, when Im with other gamers I just want to game and do the lonely stuff when Im alone.

Kera foehunter:

we both have our own hobby’s I got this and he has Sports.

he thinks I’m wierd and i think he is funny yelling at a T V

when i"m working on stuff I’m online to many sites while the green stuff or paint drys

CopperPot:

Re-runs of LOST keep me going and once that has finished I have Battlestar Galactica to watch again.

uhmmm she better paint really well if thats going to happen!!!!! Actually it is nice having a significant other that is supportive of my hobby :). We are going to montreal for a few nights next week and when we come back she is itching to help me paint my hobgoblin horde. Now to find time to prep my ID for this months contest!!!

Ugly Green Trog:

I get almost no painting done on my own only modeling, I have to arrange regular painting sessions at a mates to keep up. I distract myself far too easily otherwise.
