Hello everyone. A few weeks ago while flipping through WD301 from 2005, I was reminded of something I have wanted to do since I first got my hands on the issue. An Ogre arena for “Gut Barging” The issue is packed with hobby ideas, a huge Ogre naming table and a unique set of rules for Ogre fighting.
I started out with these insulation boards cut into a rough shape. Here is Greasus relaxing while I do all the work.
Next, a base for the pit, a ramp, coat of textured paint, sharp spears to make sure no one can escape, some rocks…
The Ogres get painted in separate parts. Trying to give each one a very different look.
The 4 Ogres mostly done. They are still missing blood and guts, they also need names.
Everything fits well. Ignore the dark color of the area, and the ugly drybrushing. I was testing a few things. The finished arena will be grey stone with a dusty dirt floor, the flat parts of the arena will have grass and Gnoblar fans, cheering on their favorite Ogre. I still have a lot of work to do with little details like adding carnage inside the pit (squashed Gnoblars, unlucky humans etc) Maybe even a hot dog stand.
Bolg:
Oh what a lovely random collection of things and miniatures. i love it.
Hope you get to go many pages long (:
Forgefire:
Haha simply awesome. Looking forward to more Arena Action!
Gargolock:
Gotta love ogres. All the ogres look unique but they do need some good blood and gore. Well done with the arena it looks great. I am excited for more ogre arena action as well.
Cloister:
Thanks for the kind words guys, appreciate it.
Uther the unhinged:
I love ogres and I love gladiators and you do both brilliantly! I look forward to full reports.

Nicodemus:
That’s cool!! I remember that issue and the article with the ogre fighting in particular. I’m really starting to enjoy some of these smaller-scale side games (for lack of a better term) that full-scale WHFB.
Great stuff!!
Cloister:
Thanks dudes. Here is an update on the arena, any suggestions for what should go on the blank sign?
And batch painting these French Foreign Legion for a beau geste war game. 50 at a time!!
