[Archive] Constructing an Iron Daemon

moses:

Hi fellow Chaos Dwarf lovers,

finally i started building my FW Iron Daemon (after lots of mouldline cleaning). As i got him without a building plan it was quite some work to fit all those bits in the right place.

Now i have to tackle the bad casted parts (there are quite a few) some are easily to repair, others not.

I had to add a new shovel for example.

On the guy that is lifting his mask i had to cut of the remaining parts of the mask as there was nothing really there.

–>Do you think its important for him to have a mask???

—>I am not sure if i want to do one myself…

The same guy is holding something in his left hand, my models only has the handle left, and from the pics in the net i can´t make it out what he is holding there.

–So please, check your Iron Daemon an tell me, thanks in advance:hat off

Now to my main issue. Between the rear wheels there is a chain running making it 4wd. These chains are really bad casted, broken and missing some links.

–>Do you think it would be ok to leave them away?

–>Any ideas for easy replacement?

I am not going to as FW for replacement as want to start paining soon (not in a year…)

Stay tuned, i will post some pics during the building and painting process. I won´t be a step by step as my time is limited.

Hang on

Many people on this forum had casting issues with their IDs. Just send and e-mail to Forgeworld and they will happily send you new bits!!!

Hello Chaosdwarflovers,

only two very wip shots today.

as i prefer to have a rather high painting standard even for my gaming armies i decided to paint my ID in lots of separate parts.

so i hope to get a really good finish by getting into all those recesses.

in order to do this, i assembled the parts as far as i could and glued them onto little nails.

this will help basecoating and painting as well.

here are some parts with black undercoat

i made lots of holes in a chunk of wood to put those nails in. to help me handle the parts.

next step is a layer of silver, applied with spraycan from army painter.

a dark silver will be the main colour, gold and black for the rest. and some redparts to fit it into the scheme of my old army.

it will be a slow progress, but there will be one…

Be careful with the right cannon. The way it fits its slot it slightly bends to the right. I had to cut some bits and add green stuff to make it stand straight.
