Well it gets up to 9 attacks. I thought the tentacles explain that away nicely.

Those plumes are made by Armorcast. They are resin cast and they sell them in various sizes.

I have made smoke plumes using greenstuff. It isn't hard. Just roll it into balls and then kind of stick them together smoothing in the joints. I use a brass wire or paper clip bent into an appropriate shape as a framework.
