[Archive] D&D - gift from a lovely old lady

nitroglysarine:

I was picking up a display cupboard I’d seen in a small ad in the local supermarket from a lady locally, great unit, will give my CD’s a cool home. But while there we got onto the topic of hobbies, I mentioned what I did for a hobby (modeling & sculpting).

She then presented me with an immaculate condition D&D box set, never used with all the models for nothing! And thanked me for picking up the display unit!

Kudos to the Gran!! :cheers

GRNDL:

Sounds cool. Is it the old classic Red Box set from the 80’s, or one of the newer crappy ones? I went on a bit of a nostalgia kick last year and started to collect all the old Basic D&D boxes (Basic, Expert, Companion, Master, etc) as my copies were a bit dogeared.

nitroglysarine:

Its very crisp, so i’m guessing its the newer one.

It has four characters, and a pile of monsters.

I think its to immaculate to be an older one.

Satan:

Awesome, sometimes you just get lukcy!

nitroglysarine:

Copywrite 2003, so i guess it one of the new ones!

cornixt:

The old ones had pretty crappy plastic models (at least mine from the late 80s did)

nitroglysarine:

the models aren’t to bat tbh, just the colours are a bit odd.

Kered:

I know what you mean, I plan on repainting many of mine.

cornixt:

I had unpainted ones, made from a plastic that paint would barely adhere to. And they were tiny, maybe 15mm. Got the dice though, probably the most important part. The basic rules got a bit boring so I made up a load extra. I wonder if I still have the book I wrote them in somewhere.
