[Archive] Deathshrieker Rocket Launcher?

Groznit Goregut:

Hi All,

I’ve been thinking that the DSRL (Death Shrieker Rocket Launcher) is good for it’s template against low T troops and for the single high S hit against War Machines and enemy monsters. I’m used to playing OnG and while many will take Doom Divers over Rock Lobbas, I say that the Rock Lobba does something that the DD doesn’t. It gives long range and high S attacks. It’s FANTASTIC for taking out enemy war machines. I like to go with 2 as the chance to hit that war machine is greater. With the DSRL, there is even a greater chance that it will veer onto SOMETHING and cause some damage.

Does anyone use the DSRL for the same purpose in a CD list? I see people say drop them when you have k’daai fireborn as they are both good against low T units. What about the enemy war machines? To be honest, what do we have that can take them out? Hobgoblins MIGHT get to them, but even that would take a couple of turns. I can see a single hit with these guys take out an enemy cannon. Two of them should take one out most of the time! If we have an army that is more defensive and needs to sit back, we need to deal with enemy war machines. This is how I think we should take out the competition. Am I wrong?

Cherry Soda Man:

I completely agree. I’ve seen it posted several times how unreliable their rockets can be, but honestly let’s consider all that we’re given.

To start deathshriekers are dirt cheap for what they do making it easy enough to load up on them, which increases their dependability right there. It’s fine that my first DS missed, I’ve got another two back in the wing to shoot you with! With the re-roll on a scatter thrown in as well you SHOULD be able to pick off war machines in a decently reliable manner.

I haven’t used it yet, but I’ve become fond of using the hellcannon over the deathshrieker. You’re trading a large template st 3 with a panic check for a small template st 5 (with the center of the template being better than the st 8 single shot) and a panic check at -1. The fact that you’re getting a war machine that can hold an entire flank by itself is just gravy.

EDIT: I do remember killing my friend’s warsphinx with one shot from the deathshrieker though. He wasn’t too happy about that.

Errrrr......not really. I'm thinking of using the DSRL primarily as the high S rounds to take out enemy war machines, Hurricanums, Corpse Carts, etc. The S3 template is just what they do when there isn't a better target.

I'm not saying take the DSRL over the Hellcannon. I'm thinking of taking BOTH! Probably 2 DSRL and 1 Hellcannon.

To make the comparison fair, though, if you were taking a Hellcannon or the DSRL, you have a hundred points left over. That’s a Daemonsmith, or another rocket.
