[Archive] Demiurg?

ashur:

I’m aware that there is little background about the 40K Demiurg.

One of my ideas was to convert dwarfs into Demiurg, but I still dont have a good idea of what they look like, and GW has done nothing to help. So I would like to know if someone has already thought about this, what are your views and how do you picture them. Is there some artwork out there?

Father Grumpmas:

Here are a couple of things that are supposed to be Demiurg

The rumours I recall is that they appear somewhat similar to squats but less facial hair i.e. moustaches and side whiskers rather than full beards and they have cranial ridging of some sort.

Narflung:

Where did you get these pics father grumpmas?

AGPO:

So squats crossed with Klingons? Shudder what has Worf been up to…? What is the fluff for these guys anyway and where can I find it?

Godbob and his jolly rogers:

no don’t think dwarf should be in 40K it wrong

al-hashut:

Anything that gets under the skin of GW is alrite with me, isn’t that why we’re all part of the CDO community :stuck_out_tongue:

I like them, i actually think the fluff supports dwarfs better in 40k than in fantasy (humans evolving in a high gravity environment rather than just a different race [created by the old ones?]). Plus i’ve still got an Epic Squat army from Space Marine. Mole mortars, trikes and land trains, i still love the little freaks. Don’t listen to the official story of their homeworld being eaten by nids, don’t make mini-klingons, if you want Squats look no further than ZZTop and the Hell’s Angels for inspiration

zorn sabretooth:

welll we do have halflings(ratlings) so why not

cornixt:

So they are just Squats now? I thought they were multi-limbed insect things that just happened to have the same mining background.

Godbob and his jolly rogers:

still wrong:sick

Aren't you the resident archivist Cornixt? I was under the impression the Demiurg were the merchant class of the Squats, like rogue traders, who according to the GW deus ex machina of the squat holocaust, escaped this fate.

I'd always assumed it was the GW way of closing the door on a problematic race, whilst keeping one foot in should they ever want to rerelease a "dwarf-like" humanoid race who hate goblinoids and like mining, but perhaps have a slightly different spin on the models, i.e no pringles style vests, visors etc. I don't know, it's just pure speculation on my part

cornixt:

They first appeared in battlefleet Gothic, but there were few physical descriptions so although they acted like the squats, they weren’t defined physically like them. They are another of the Tau allies. I’ve never really kept up with 40k universe fluff, so I’ve not seen what has happened to them in the meantime

al-hashut:

Did a little bit more research for you Ashur. Not much info about, apparently they invented, and subsequently gave the tau, the ion cannon:

And pics of their two BFG ships from Forgeworld:

Both of these lack the traditional ancestor faces and have an unusual, almost star wars ‘star destroyer’, design. However, the armies on board are still organised into squat-like brotherhoods, with 3 brotherhoods garrisoning each of the first ships, with one a piece for the second. The weapons of these vessals have been converted from lasers, etc converted from mining equipement, so maybe you’ll want to carry this theme on with your ground troops, such as lascutters, drills and blast charges.

Also, two brotherhoods of the Demiurg, the Srry’Tok and Thurm, are known to have joined the Tau Empire, so it might be interesting, should you go down this route, to have them armed with pulse rifles, combining fire caste and clansmen sprues, and have as many ion cannons in the force as possible.

Hope that helps

ashur:

so mixing dwarfs and tau seems a way to start.

There is a discussion thread over on Warseer that I remembered from a while ago. One quick Google image search later and I managed to pull these up.

As far as I can gather, both the bust and drawing are from a GW design source rather than just random stuff from fans/players.

ashur:

Thanks to all of you. I will reconsider my project until I find something else than give lasers to dwarfs.

Narflung:

Hmm, this thread has seemed to dull your interest, but it has increased mine. Looks like I’m going to have to pull my old squat conversions out and bring them into this century…
