[Archive] Digital Edition rule books?

Vogon:

Can anyone explain to me how these work?

I?Tve got an iPad mini on its way and am considering getting the digital version of the rule book as my little one is getting very tatty and has pages falling out.

Does anyone on here have any experience with them? I understand there are different versions depending on which platform you put it on but I?Tve no idea what those differences are or if I can get a ?oone file fits all platforms? type.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Vogon

If you have an iPad, you want the iBooks version. I haven’t used these myself but they have lots of interactive elements and presentation that mimics the print books. The eBooks versions available from Black Library (in ePub or Mobi formats) are a lot more stripped down - essentially just text and images, and they’ll display differently depending on what device you’re using to view them.

iBooks are better, but generally more expensive and exclusive to Apple mobile devices (I believe you can download software to display it on a Mac though), the eBooks versions are worse but you can view them on anything you like.

I’ve downloaded a few of the eBooks and they’re fine. Not as nice as an actual book and, as a stickler for the way the Codecies and Armies books are presented, I can’t help but be a bit disappointed by them. I’ve spent a long time working off and on on turning the Adepta Sororitas book into the proper Codex format…

Tommy, thank you for that pretty comprehensive review.

I too am a fan of real books but I thought I might give a digital version a try.

It certainly sounds like I should go with an iBooks version and see how that goes.

Cheers
