[Archive] Dwarves rules for chaos dwarves?

Glimpse the Void:

How many of you are excited about the new dwarf book to count as chaos dwarves for your army? I’ve been stoked. Now I have to decide between the army book in paper or iPad version…

Grimbold Blackhammer:

I was toying with it a week or so ago but then it occurred to me that it would be like using High Elves models to field a Dark Elf army which doesn’t work for me at all. Back when we had an unofficial book I think we could have gotten away with it but now that we’re official, I think it’s inappropriate. I don’t recall ever hearing about a Dwarf player fielding his models as a Chaos Dwarf army…

Interesting point of view. I never reasoned on this. On the other hand a "counts as Dwarfs" Cd army would give you the opportunity to convert CD Gyrocopters, CD Slayers, CD Ironbreakers, and so on...

Satan:

I’ve been considering expanding my CD thusly once they’re finished.

I was inspired by Diablo 3 and the dreadball dwarves and AOW slayers to make a regiment of warrior monks, which I hope I get around to some day.

Bloodbeard:

The idea for my army has been in my head for many years. The years before tamurkhan - and not knowing there was an updated ravening hordes.

I wanted to make an army and use either the dwarf or warriors of chaos army books.

But my army first came to existence after the tamurkhan - and I haven’t consideres using other books since.

Something along the “official” line I guess.

Admiral:

I won’t, but for reasons of unit variety, balance, points cost and FW support on-hold for the moment being to theer own WHFB army, I can understand why one would like to try CDs for Dwarfs proxies.

For Dwarfs, I’ve got proper Dwarfs. :cheers

Tarrakk Blackhand:

What about updating the CDO version of the Ravening Hordes 8th Edition rules that Thommy H had a part in before we got the FW Support? I can’t afford sending money to FW, so if the ol’ 8th Ed Ravening Hordes list is still valid, can it get updated with the new Dwarf rule book as a guideline…or is this a bit redundant?

cornixt:

That was just the Ravening Hordes list with just enough clarification to be used in 8th, I doubt that anything in the new Dwarf book will change anything just like nothing in the last book did.

I used my CDs and Dwarfs in 6th and 7th edition. It was like having two armies for the price of one. Given how big chunks were just regular dwarf models converted, it wasn’t weird at all.

Heavygear:

It seems like it would be a fairly vanilla chaos dwarf list. No Kdaai, no taurus, no hobgoblins, no bull centaurs, no iron daemons. I guess if your list consists of characters, dwarfs and artillery it is certainly possible. The new Iron Drakes put the Blunderbuss to shame I think. The new flame cannon rules are similar to the magma cannon with a negative on the misfire chart. What do chaos dwarf gyrobombers look like? It is a nice modeling opportunity.

I think I like the monsters too much to do this myself. I have built three Iron Daemons, converted juggernaught riding dwarfs for bull centaurs, converted a Kdaai destroyer, and I quite frankly love my Drazoath the Ashen model.

Having said that the stats and models for the Iron Breakers and Iron Drakes make me smile. The army wide rules giving +1 str on the charge and shieldwall, and hatred are truly characterful.

Stranger things have happened. There is a guy at my FLGS who built a Black Orc army for SoC. He still fields it as a Chaos Warrior list all the time. He also uses old chaos dwarf models to play dwarfs.

Vantraxx the Thrice Cursed:

I guess it depends on your gaming group. I wouldn’t mind at all.

I miss the GT list. For me, the Tamurkhan list just never really did it for me. If GW spent 1/100th of the attention and love that ThommyH did on his list I wouldn't be looking for an alternative. I hope we see something else soon personally...

As for Heavy's question I imagine that you could have some really cool looking Lammasu or Tarus flying with steampunk looking chaos dwarves. It's easy to imagine these beast either reining fire breath or the chaos dwarves blasting some kind of magic if the model was represented in flight...

Tarrakk Blackhand:

So I’m probably safe to field the ol’ Ravening Hordes (8th Update) list as it is…and was.

That’s good then. I guess we won’t really find out for rules clarification until the new Dwarf book comes out…but I think that would only marginally affect the Dwarf warriors personality anyway. I can’t see GW doing a stats change.

Ender SpiteSworn:

i for one am really looking forward to this. I think its a great opportunites for conversions as well as reuse some of the models/work I’ve alread done.

Can’t wait to make some ironsworn out of that Long beard kit (head and weapon swap, etc) and I am already planning out some evil blimp conversions for the bombers.

The Hellglaives look to be pretty good iron dragons and My K’daai firborn will double duty as unit filler for the warriors (will need bigger units)

Warmachines all cross over pretty well, but yeah can’t work in the Destroy, bull centaurs, hob gobos, and Bale taurues. But hey if I really wanted to play them I can just run the Chaos Dwarves.

So, yeah, I’m pretty excited about this book.

Dwarfs riding juggernauts for BC? That is awesome, have you any pics?

gIL^:

I will defiantly do this, As long as the models are recognised properly there isn’t an issue. If someone has an issue take it back and field a Kdaii destroyers!

Grimbold Blackhammer:

That’s the sad thing I’m imaginining actually.  If (big ‘if’…) the rumors are to be believed, Dwarfs got all the Chaos Dwarf rules plus some and they’re cheaper too!  Pull out a Scroll of Binding for a K’daii Destroyer and presto - a Chaos Dwarf army!

I’m still not digging the idea of using Chaos Dwarfs as regular Dwarfs. I can’t get past it being like using High Elves models and calling them Dark Elves or visa-versa. Just seems wrong to me…

That's funny because ive seen many duel armies, Woodies and high elves, Warriors and Daemons, Ive even seen a Brettonian and Vampire counts duel army.

I think it's a pretty standard thing, As long as it looks like a dwarf army i don't see an issue, Hell as there called Dwarfs it doesn't specify what kind of dwarf :D but that's pushing it.

Grimbold Blackhammer:

I can see a Brettonian/Vampire army because the models are so similar - just paint the peasants in drab zombie colors and you’re good to go. But how do you make Warriors and Daemons into the same army? Or Wood Elves and High Elves? Other than an archer unit, I don’t see any similarity there.

Tarrakk Blackhand:

It’s all “Make-Believe” Grimbold!

Wait...what?! *runs away to check the rules*
