[Archive] Easy way to convet Chaos Dwarfs

Thorwick:

I am trying to find an easy was to convert Chaos Dwarfs, does anyone know a good and easy way. I watched Xander’s video (A very good video), but I’m not that good with green stuff so the less green stuff the better :).

Da Crusha:

I would say the easiest way to accomplish a simple yet effective chaos dwarf would be to use a plastic dwarf model, give them marauder shields, beastmen or chaos space marine horns and then just paint them to look evil. I’ve never done any like this but I would imagine it would look nice

Bolg:

Marauder shields and some chaos weapon swaps are the way to go. make sure your banners look chaos and youre done.

Are we talking BFSP Dwarfs, or Dwarfs in general?

If they’re BFSP Dwarfs, I would cut off their horned helmets and replace those with thumb tacks for tall hats. Like many here have already said, use Marauder shields or, as an alternative, try some Goblin wicker square shields or some simular diameter fancy round buttons. Also, cut off the “Good Dwarf” banner tops at the top of their hands and replace those with banner tops from either Chaos, Orcs and Goblins, Beastmen, Skaven (But make sure you don’t use the Skaven symbol.) and you can even use the large Ogre Kingdoms banner tops for your Battle Standard Bearer.

The nice thing with the BFSP set is that all of the regular Standard Bearers don’t carry any weapons, save for the Thunderers unit. This means that you can use one of those guys to hold the Battle Standard because a Battle Standard Bearer isn’t suppose to have a hand weapon. Those figures are ideal for that job.

To add some strength to the banner poles, drill and pin each end before you glue them together. It’s a good way to do it because I had someone break off a modified hand tool I made for my Death Rocket crew. After I pinned it, it was indestructible.

Also, if you need to lengthen a banner pole, drill a deep 1/16" hole in the top of the Dwarf’s hand and use a 1/16" metal rod. I found those types of rods in a Flower shop. I think they use them for making fake flower stems and for general support on larger arrangements. These are the same rods that are used for axels in model cars made by AMT.

Now, if you want to change the 1 piece BFSP Dwarf’s arms with some from a Dwarf Battallion box or something, cut off the molded on arm, file or sandpaper the arm socket flat, and then drill in a new arm socket with a 3/8" drill. Now your new Dwarf arm will be able to fit into the hole and be poseable just like the 4 piece Dwarfs.

Guardian_A:

All I can speak for is myself and what I’m doing with my own Chaos Dwarf army.

The only troops I worry about having curly beards on are my Lord/Hero choices. And many of those are just models bought from other companies.

I dont use any green stuff for my regular troops. I start by filing away all of the runes and dwarf emblems. Then with the warriors I exchange their shields for Chaos shields (The little round ones usually) My thunderers are done a couple of different ways, but using a Dwarf Buckler at the end of the gun is one of the easiest.

Hashut’s Blessing:

There is my tutorial, which is for more basic Greenstuff use, but you needn’t even change the beard. Just click here.

Hope that’s of use!

Just realised I can embed it:
