[Archive] Fireforge Mongols - possible hobgoblins

Bloodbeard:

After a couple of games with my growing Chaos Dwarf army, I beginning to realize I might have to get some hobgoblins.

I haven’t really been wanting any because I want to play dwarfs. But in low point games I really need some more bodies on the table. A realization I got after this fridays Triumph and Treachery games.

There are a ton of cool hobgoblin conversions on the forum, but none that quite fit my army. Stormvermin are great, but just a bit too armored. Goblins are too goblinny if just used that way. Clanrats/flaggelants are too slave looking.

Gnoblars heads are just a little to silly (and some really bad sculpts). Gretchen heads are awesome, and the goblin heads with mongol helmets are super.

… Okay… this is turning into conversion talk and that’s not the point.

I’ve been looking on the net to find a basis model for my hobgoblins. And I’ve come across these dudes from fire forge games, thought I share them with you.

The mongol infantry is just released and the cavalry is coming 1Q 2014.

I’ve written the company for some detailed pictures of the actual sprues - plus I’ve asked if they plan on making some heavy infantry (that resembles the heavy cavalry).

Check them and let me hear your thoughts. I see some real potential. With new green stuff faces or goblin heads, some LotR warts for wolf raiders. It could work.

Fireforges other sprues are pretty sweet, and I’ll definitely be getting some for my (in the future) Dogs of War army.

Mongol Horde Infantry
Mongol Light Cavalry
Heavy Cavalry

Edit: Turns out there are sprue pictures of the infantry. Box also contains a command group sprue that is not shown.

Nice idea, could work really well.

Traxo:

Im just chipping in here, hope its okay…

While the linked mongols are quite nice, your post really got me wondering… Are there really no good alternatives on the market besides gobbo/skaven conversion or the old metal hobgobs??

If not, would people be interested in me making some hobgobs? And if yes, how should they be kitted out…

Forgive me if this hijacks your thread mate, i will delete it, if you want

Sticklander:

I can see the potential… But they might be a bit too thin.

Hijack all you want! If you make some cool mongol looking hob goblins people will buy them. I don't think there's any models that really have the right feel out there - other than tje old ones. And IMO they are not mean enough.

Zanthrax:

I agree with bloodbeard mongol hobgoblins would be awesome to hit the market

Traxo:

Cool! What do people want? Armoured, robed? Bows or handweapons? Ill take any pointers i can get

Fuggit Khan:

Wow, those are some very nice models…I think I’ll get some just for the “bits” factor. Thanks for sharing these with all of us…I love to see stuff like this (even if my wife rolls her eyes at the ever growing pile of bits boxes in the closet)

:hat off

Zanthrax:

I would look to oglah khan’s wolf riders for ahem inspiration for the best look for infantry with bows / spears/ handweapon shield combos.

Would be an awesome kickstarter too!

One can never really get too many bits. I just ordered two (by mistake, should have been one) boxes of bits. They where really cheap and from a dedicated bitseller, like a christmas surprise. Looking forward to seeing all the gold in there.

I'll definately be getting some heavy cavalry for wolf raider at some point.

Fireforge answered my question about heavy infantry and they are not planned at the moment - since everybody will be fielding calvalry when playing a mongol horde anyway.
