[Archive] first 2500 point list

Odatria:

I have game in a little under a week at 2500 points versus Lizardmen. So far I have only been using my Chaos Dwarfs in an escalation campaign I am running starting at 500 points and currently nearing 1500 points, and in friendly games up to 2000 points, so this will be my biggest game with the Legion of Azgorh yet.

I am pretty much putting down everything I have until I pick up everything I am missing from the book at open day, so I can’t change things around too much, but please give me your thoughts regardless.

Lords (365)

Sorcerer-Prophet lvl4 (Hashut) - mask of the furnace - 365

Heroes (600)

Castellan BSB - enchanted shield - 135

Taur’Ruk - great weapon, shield, dragonhelm, dawnstone, potion of speed - 215

Daemonsmith lvl2 (Death) - dispel scroll 155

Daemonsmith lvl1 (Fire) - 95

Core (678)

10 Infernal Guard - fireglaives - 170

23 Infernal Guard - full command - 308

20 Hobgoblins - bows - 100

20 Hobgoblins - bows - 100

Special (255)

3 Bull Centaur Renders - great weapons, musician - 155

Deathshrieker Rocket - 100

Rare (600)

Hellcannon - 210

K’daai Destroyer - 325

5 Wolf Raiders - spears - 65

Total - 2498

It seems a bit pointless to me posting a list without giving some thoughts myself so here is a few things I am considering.

- Perhaps swap the spears on the Wolf Raiders to just give them a musician?

- Perhaps swap lores around a bit. I like having a lvl 1 so I can rely on having at least one long ranged magical missile (fireball) at my disposal, it is quite a versatile spell, and ruby ring of ruin doesn’t allow me to boost it so I tend to always take a lvl 1 fire. But perhaps the lvl 4 should be Death?

- I see a lot of people saying give the Taur’Ruk blackshard armour but for 15 points that takes him from a 2+ save (scaly skin, heavy armour, shield) to a 1+ save with a 5+ ward versus flaming. The dragonhelm gives him the same armour save but with a 2+ ward versus flaming, and for only 10 points. Giving him the Dawnstone to reroll that armour and the Potion of Speed to go at I3 instead of I0 one turn makes him a pretty tough character on paper at least.

- Bull Centaurs, if I need to free up any more points for anything I can drop these to Hand Weapon & Shield or 2 Hand Weapons, the Taur’Ruk will be doing most of the killing so it might not be worth these guys waiting for the I0 step to attack anyway, at least shields makes them a bit more survivable (and makes them WYSIWYG).

Grimbold Blackhammer:

I think your list could use some tweaking. I’d lower the points spent on characters (I think 40% is too much!). And I think you’re expecting a lot more from the magic phase than I ever seem to see. I think our Sorcerer-Prophets are a huge waste of points for what you get so I’d get rid of him completely. By making your Level 1 wizard the General, you only lose a single point of leadership and you can hide him him the back where he should be pretty safe but still blast out his Fireballs.

I also think you’ll want your Stubborn BSB to be super-survivable so I’d give him a ward save.

You gave your Taur’ruk a shield and a Potion of Speed - why? He can’t use the shield in combat, has Always Strikes last, and the potion doesn’t raise his initiative high enough to be free of ASF re-rolls. Not sure what the benefit of either of those is.

I’d take the points you save from not fielding a lord and buy another block of 20 hobgoblins and add in a pair of Magma Cannons. Or an Iron Demon plus some more Fireglaives.

You have tons of options!

Vantraxx the Thrice Cursed:

Blackshard+scaly skin+dragonhelm is 1+ even in combat. Your setup with double handed weapon negates the shield bonus when in hand to hand so your guy has 1+ against shooting and 2+ in combat. Also potion of speed isn’t much help with the double handed weapon perhahps you can consider blackshard armour, other tricksters shard, dawnstone and dragonhelm with your double handed weapon for a 1+ rerollable (in and out of combat), 2++ against against flames, strength 7 and make the enemy reroll ward saves.

Bloodbeard:

Bring a ward save on the BSB. Always!

Odatria:

I ran this list twice today against a different lizardmen player with only one slight alteration being the Taur’ruk which I changed to have the Ogre Blade, Dragonhelm and Shield, freeing up 5 points to put a musician on the wolf raiders.

In the first game it did really well and my opponent conceded on turn 4 having only killed several hobgoblins, partly down to him rolling badly for winds and me rolling great for winds twice in a row. The destroyer and the render unit were outstanding.

In the second game we tied, the destroyer got taken down early on but his focus on that allowed the renders to walk through one flank, running down the salamanders and bastilodon, here I also killed the stegadon. On the other side though his cavalry and big Saurus block made a mess of my small gunline.

I’m going to change a few things around. The BSB survived both games unscathed but I can see it being worth giving him a ward save. I’m not running any magma canons in this list as I don’t want to go warmachine heavy, I prefer a faster hard hitting army with a little back up from behind, not a whole army of guns.

The reason I’m taking a lvl 4, lvl 2 and lvl 1 is that I’m expecting to go up against a Slann and multiple priests, giving me a chance in the magic phase to at least keep up. In both today’s test games they worked really well. The lvl 2 death Daemonsmith was particularly nasty and Fireball proved itself again.

Odatria:

Changes to the list were as follows,

Added musician on the wolves.

Added second death shrieker.

Dropped a Daemonsmith.

Level 1 went Metal with dispel scroll.

Taur’ruk took ogre blade, blackshard and shield.

BSB had talisman of endurance 5+ ward and enchanted shield 2+ armour.

Sorcerer Prophet had ruby ring of ruin and talisman of preservation 4+ ward.

Game ended as a draw, he was leading by about 80 victory points.

His list was all skinks skirmishing, chameleons and 2 stegadons, carnosaur lord, with Tetto Eko and 4 level 1 priests all with Iceshard Blizzard. I must of had ten units of ten skirmishes to face. The K’daai walked through his BSB on cold one even with the 2+ ward vs flaming but it did hold him up. The Taur’ruk got smashed by the carnosaur in the first turn of combat as I missed all my attacks. Good game lots of fun but very different list to what I expected to go up against so was an uphill struggle.
