GRNDL:
I’ve never really been that big into the Imperial stuff for 40k, but I’ve done a few projects here and there.
First off, true scale pre-heresy marines. Sometime last year I got wind of the idea of truescaling from a thread on CDO and decided to do some myself. I’m rather tired of “regular space marines”, but wanted to do some SMs - I just needed some inspiration. Truescaling seemed to be it - a way of getting some rather unique models done. I’ve messed around with two main methods and have mixed thoughts on the results. The first two models are just tests, although I’ll be keeping them if I follow through on the rest of the project and probably clean up the painting later. For these truescale models, I’ll probably only do a kill team of 10 models tops.
The first one involved a few minor tweaks. The legs are extended with 1mm plasticard and then shaved down. The waist is bulked up with a new belt of plasticard and some GS. The shoulders are widened with circles of plasticard (1mm). Its enough to get a marine look a little taller, but in my opinion, still doesn’t have that truescale feeling. Next to a regular marine or guardsman though, it looks pretty good.
This one is painted in pre-heresy Alpha Legion colours, inspired by the cover of the Horus Heresy novel “Legion” which has to be the best one, IMO.

The second one is my current favourite because of its sheer size and impressive stature compared to regular models. It was built following Vorropohaiah’s True Scale World Eater thread, which really needs to be seen to be believed.

The technique is very laborious, but the results are worthwhile. IMO, I think its still a little bit big - more of a primarch size than a regular astartes, but still, the results are cool and look good. They seem to be very close to some of the more “heroic” GW artwork. The technique involves using terminator arms and legs, splicing them in two and extending them a few mm with plasticard and then GS/BSing the armour in between. The chest is bulked up with GS and the hoses/equipment sculpted on top of it. The shoulder pads are terminator ones bulked up with plasticard.

For some reason I decided that the model be tournament legal and put him on a 25mm round base, which seems ridiculous, but there you go. Vorro’s World Eaters are all on 40mm terminator bases and look more proportional to the model, but seems unwieldy in a tabletop setting.
Lastly for this update, was a converted Imperial Guardsman that I’m using for my Dark Heresy campaign character - Craven, a low level techpriest. I had intended on modelling all the equipment my character had, but that was going to end up with being an incredibly busy mini, so I chose a few bits and bobs. My character currently wears some flak armour, mechanicus robes, photo-visor contacts and basic acolyte techpriest implants and essential techpriest gear like spare parts bags and toolkit. The base model was a plastic cadian with robes added with GS. The side bag on the right hip is all GS, but the one on his left hip was taken from a Dark Angels sprue.

The character is supposed to be a void-born techpriest, so I made him look a bit unhealthy.
Since the model is used as a token in a RPG rather than a tabletop wargame, I decided I’d have a more faction themed base, so I made a little AdMech symbol for him to stand on.
As Craven develops through the campaign, I intended to either modify this model or create others to represent his experience gain.
