a few years ago Forge World was selling at the same time a Bale Taurus without Rider and Drazhoath the Ashen. Now the Bale Taurus is discontinued according to their website.
Was the Bale Taurus the same model as Drazhoath’s bull or was it different?
I had a look at some picture and the details semms slightly different.
I wanted a Great Taurus for my forces and ended up subbing with a Reaper Brass Bull (Bones, thankfully). I may yet kitbash my own version of Drazhoath, and use one of those. I’m not spending a couple hundred bucks on a model from Forge World if I can do a kitbash that looks good and is in scale with the rest of my army.
I never realised it was different to the one ridden by Drazoath the Ashen! I had always looked at it and presumed it was the same sculpt, just positioned differently on the base by using a flying stand. If I had known, I’d have made efforts to buy it and it is far too late to hope to purchase it at a sensible rate these days. Not that I have Drazoath either, but the unridden Bale Taurus could’ve been used as a Great Taurus in Storm of Magic and such for the 8th edition Chaos Dwarfs from the Legion of Azgorh.
Huh interesting, I never realised it was different either. It does appear to be essentially the same model though. It looks like it comes with some slightly different front legs, a different mount option where the throne sits, and some different horns.
The horns are better imo on the Bale Taurus than the scythe like things on Drazhoath. I am painting this up currently and it is very simple to magnetise Drazhoath if you wanted the ability to remove him for Storm of Magic - I magnetised mine to take the Lammasu rider so it fits better with my Big Hats
Out of curiosity for the people who own this, how balanced is it on its original base?
That was always the reason I never bought it

As for how balanced it is on the base - it is surprisingly solid for such a huge chunk. I set the standing foot in a little Green Stuff and put a pin through the bottom of each foot but this only went through the base and is not anchored into anything more solid. My gf even knocked it off the kitchen worktop onto a hard floor and it survived with only the little dangley armour plate and one hook thing falling off! I was amazed.
