Vogon:
So here?Ts my little report from the Forge World Open Day
It?Ts going to be a little bit rambling as is usually the case as I?Tll be typing stuff as I remember it
I was dropped off at about 9am and was reasonably close to the front of the queue.
At about 9:45 some staffers came around with catalogues and sheets showing what was going to be on sale for the first time that day. Including Mugs, T-shirts, a Heresy Pin Badge and then the new models.
The Two Event only models were on the program sheet and were the only ones painted. There were two versions of the Extermination book, 1 which was just the book and one which was a set including the book, a book containing just the basic Legion list, a book containing the Legion specific rules for all legions to date, an art book and a slipcase to keep them all in.
We got let in at 10:00 on the nose and were given a Siege of Vraks poster and a pin badge before being let upstairs. The sales stand was pretty well organised though despite being quite close to the front it was still an hour until I got to the front and made my purchases.
After that I headed to the design studio section for a chat with some of the sculptors.
As I reported yesterday Trish was sculpting a new Tyranid beastie called a Dimachaeron which is going to be in the updated Imperial Armour Volume 4 which is close to being released.
And with her move to 40K there are no longer any sculptors working on Fantasy. As far as I could tell this was also the only 40K model being sculpted all the rest of the forge world staff working on Heresy product.
One of the first things of note was the new Knight Lancer model sculpted by Daren Parwood. This is an entirely resin model (pictures below) and looks quite nice. There is a sculpted interior but as yet there are no plans to include a pilot to sit in the command chair.
There are going to be more weapons options including one that looks like a mini mega bolter thing like you get on Titans but so far these are still on the drawing board.
I spoke to Steve Whitehead about the K?TDaai Destroyer and he said he does not know when it is likely to be released, as far as he is concerned he finished it and sent it for moulding, the moulders asked for some changes which he made and sent it back and he has heard nothing since. He didn?Tt bring the model along because he had no information on when it is going to be released. Tony Cottrell when asked separately told me that it was in Steve?Ts hands as they had asked for some changes to help moulding. Steve who was stood right there when Tony said this simply rolled his eyes.
From a new models point of view I was a little disappointed. The only really interesting new stuff on display was the Knight lancer and a new larger mechanicum robot with a plasma mortar. There were more Salamanders models in the cabinets but as far as really new stuff as far as I could tell there wasn?Tt much.
I had it repeated to me several times that a lot of the projects being worked on were to be kept under wraps until the Horus Heresy Weekender and they are not to be even talked about until then.
A chat with Alan Bligh suggested that contrary to popular belief the destruction of Prospero may in fact not be the next book as there is a lot of work to be done on it for the Custodes and Sisters of Silence before it?Ts actually anywhere near ready. He has basic outlines and plans for all three of the next books but there are lots of things that need finalising.
He did mention the at the moment Corax is the most expensive (in points) of the Primarchs thanks to the Jump Infantry rule, he also mentioned that they?Tre contemplating Sanguinius being a flying monstrous creature.
Simon Egan Also said there will be at least three versions of Horus but that he is not currently working on Magnus nor Russ though he has put his name down to do Russ as his favourite Primarch.
I?Tll post more as it occurs to me but I think that?Ts enough to get you started.
Cheers
