[Archive] Friendly Neighborhood CDO

Malorndk:

We live in a dangerous time, where once trusted companies suddenly eliminates the accessibility of entire factions. We need our Friendly Neighborhood CDO to help each other in these dire times. Some recieves newsletters, frequent other forums or know a guy who heard some solid, believeable rumor. If anyone sees, that something is going Out Of Print (As the Hellcanon and entire TK range already have) please for the love of Hashut: “Share your knowledge”

Yesterday it was TK, but soon it might be elfs, orcs or Empire. I don’t read a lot of other sources, so I will rely on CDO to pass on these kinds of news. I have an entire gaming group, who aren’t active on any forums. To be able to secure some Necropolis Knight meant a lot to my friend, so thank you! Lets help each others, so the blow of this discontinuation of 8th edition miniatures, will be as soft as possible.

Doombeard:

Next is Brettonians , you can follow my AoS discussion thread for updates, that was kind of the point

cornixt:

It’s safe to assume that nearly everything 8th and older will be going over the next year or so.

2 years top, except probably Forgeworld Chaos Dwarfs. They wont redo Chaos Dwarfs. :D

cornixt
Is that why they just released nearly the whole chaos range in the grand alliance battletome? Not sure about your logic there.

cornixt:

“nearly” =/= “absolutely”

I’ll echo what Malorndk has asked, please share with all of us any news/updates. Like many people, I don’t follow other forums (because I *#@! dislike fanboy spammers that tend to accompany other forums). Yes, it’s a pretty sure bet that eventually GW will discontinue most (if not all) of their models. And that sucks.

But a friendly “heads up” is appreciated by all of us. Much like when zobo1942 did, he kindly gave us heads up that TK were on the ‘last chance to buy’ chopping block.

zobo1942:

It’s true - I am pretty fantastic.

Admiral:

And humble. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I was tying to do this over on my other thread in this section, I was trying to maintain a decent updates and news thread but I guess the AoS title puts people off or something. Certainly didn't intend to fanboy spam it.

Vex:

I think the Chaos range in general is safe for at least another year or two, I’m still worried about one gods faction but fingers crossed. If anything from that range will be cut it will be Beastmen first but since they had warscrolls printed in the grand alliance I think it’s safe to say we wont be seeing them go any time soon, they could have been cut with the hellcanon and throgg etc but obviously survived the cull. Chaos Dwarfs are FW’s house army so they’re pretty safe.

Lizards - Safe, just got a release

Brets - Yeah I think we’ve all known for a while Brets are gonna get axed, it’s just a matter of when, so I think you should stock up on what ever you want now.

High Elves - safe till next year

Dark Elves -^^

Wood Elves - ^^

Empire - Safe as far as I’m aware, the style of the minis could still be used by another Sigmar worshipping human faction in AoS lore

Orcs and Goblins - Too soon to tell but I think it’ll be a light reboot with repackaged bases, if anything goes it will be the majority of the goblin range.

Dwarves - Hard to say, the range could be wiped clean to make way for the steamhead duardin or w/e they’re called OR just a few kits get discontinued.

Just a complete guess, after what happened with Tomb Kings anything’s possible.

And you have maintained decent updates, please continue if you've got the steam to do so, I appreciate the news feed. :)

Agreed, please feel free to post any updates you (and others) wish. This is a community forum that can enjoy all aspects of the hobby. WFB, AoS, 9th age, Man O' War, Kings of War, painting, collecting...it's all good. Something for everyone :hat off
And for what it's worth, I said "other forums"...I was not referring to anyone/anything here on CDO.
Admittedly AoS is not my cup of tea, so it would never have occurred to me to check out an AoS devoted news thread to see what model lines are on the chopping block. But that is my own shortcoming.
But perhaps a separate thread devoted solely to discontinued models might reach a bigger audience?

Just because there aren't many other responses it doesn't mean people aren't reading it. As long as you have something new to say then there is no harm in adding another post.

Thommy H:

Judging solely by the factions and references that have been name-dropped in the books so far, I think the safest part of the O&G range are Savage Orcs (called Bonesplittaz in the compendium, but apparently now changed to Bonechewers), and Forest Goblins (Spiderfang Grots) are here to stay too. We might lose Night Goblins since there hasn’t been so much as a sniff of a squig in the Mortal Realms as far as I know, but that doesn’t mean much.

I would think the newer Dwarf models will be here to stay, since they have a pretty strong steampunk aesthetic already. I expect Belegar to become a generic duardin hero though, and the same with the master engineer special character from the last release. Also, interestingly, there’s a reference to ‘Doomseekers’ in the Fyreslayers battletome, explicitly comparing the two. That suggests to me that the Dragon Slayer model will stick around and that regular Slayers might not have been folded into the new faction for good…

Vex:

I don’t think Squigs will go, they’re too much of a thing with Orcs and Orks. But I’ll buy a few just in case.

Admiral:

Fingers crossed for the new Dwarfs staying for the long haul, then… Though as for Squigs, aren’t they genuine GW IP, akin to Skaven and Chaos Dwarfs, whereas most of their other stuff has been borrowed from elsewhere and reforged? I thought Squigs were invented by a GW sculptor in his sparetime.

TheHoodedMan:

Fuggit Khan
This is a very good idea. A thread with "Discontinued models during AoS" would be fine.

Admiral:

Good idea. Then people can subscribe to it and better ensure they become aware of new range cuts.
