[Archive] Fuggit Khan's other model stuff

Abecedar:

Very nicely done again.

TheHoodedMan:

That spaceships are so impressive. Great job all over the way and your pictures are well done, too. Everywhere good lighting and angles. Thank you for that.

(My guess for the spaceship inspiration would have been the “Slave 1” because of the slim vertical form :cheers).

Bloodbeard:

Another great ship. Well done! Are you opponents bringing painted ships as well? And terrain? Do you have a good space map for games?

Bassman:

Wow, a good 40 minutes spent admiring your vintage ships. I love anime, Macross, Five Star Stories, Yamato…

I also liked your “dark” pictures, they are amazing.

Fuggit Khan:

Thank you gentlemen, glad that you like the finished model :hat off

TheHoodedMan
Honestly, for every one decent photo, there are about 10 bad photo’s that I delete

Bloodbeard
Yes, all are painted (we only play with painted models). We have a gaming board of sorts…4 large black sheets of cardboard with small stars, planets, etc painted on them. We just lay them out on a table and go with that.
I love anime, Macross, Five Star Stories, Yamato…

Bassman
I love all those too! Classics! <3
I also love the soundtrack to Five Star Stories…incredible music that really sets such a great tone :hat off

Over the weekend I finished up another Yamato 2199 model…it won’t be used for gaming, because it’s actually a space fighter (not ship). The Gamilon DWG262 Czvarke astro fighter.

These fighters are typically in standard green finish…but this particular fighter is flown by Melda Dietz, one of my most favorite characters in Yamato 2199.

She’s patterned after Manfred Von Richtofen, the Red Baron. Similar to him, she comes from a aristocratic family of military tradition. She values honor and chivalry above all else and paints her plane a deep red color (her father is also the Grand Admiral to the entire Gamilon space fleets).
Plus, I admit, I think she’s cute

It’s a rather small kit (about 1/100 scale I believe)

But it’s molded much too ‘red’…so I spray painted it a more accurate deep rust red color. For those of you who have never heard of “Mr Hobby” (yes, a weird name), they and their subsidiaries (Gunze Sangyo, Mr Color, etc) are the worlds largest supplier of model paints and supplies. Their lacquer and acrylic paints are considered the best in the world, highly recommended and worth looking for.

Since this model is painted overall, I can’t do my previous trick of using thinned enamels for the panel lines, since any paint thinner used to clean it up would also strip away the rust red base color as well. Sooooooo…a very long time was spent hand painting each and every panel line in by hand. Good to know that at my age, I still have a moderately steady hand

Very nice molded details!

Her personal fighter also has a small light green personal emblem on the side of the cockpit…you can see it below her, uh…ahem, waist
(What is that emblem? A butterfly? Flower?)
So I was very happy that Bandai included decals for that marking

All done

And I will donate 30 slaves to the first person who can tell me which real life plane this astro fighter is based on?

Abecedar:

Beautiful fighter, you’ve done a lovely job on it (again). its a different scale to your starships isn’t it?

I’d guess the F4 phantom.

Scar:

Sweet!

This message was automatically appended because it was too short.

TheHoodedMan:

The fighter looks ultra good.

I have to admit that I have no connection to heroic characters manifested in seemingly 12 year old girls with boobs;) but the spacecraft are super cool.

edit: I once heard that some people varnish the model before doing the enamel panel lines because then you can clean mistakes with thinner without damaging the colors you did before :hat off.

AtomTaylor:

Nice neat work Fuggit, impressive.

TheHoodedMan:

Ah… and it’s the hawker harrier.

Bloodbeard:

That’s some pretty small decals! Holy smokes!

I really like the look of that fighter, it one of those models that can’t do anything but make you go “Wrooooomm!!!”. Some models will just make you play.

Darkmeer:

The model is really nice. I like how clean it looks and those really are TINY decals. I’ve never done decals, I’m a bit nervous about them, so seeing this is a bit inspirational to be able to do them.

As to the jet, I’m going to guess it’s based on a Mitsubishi T-2. It’s a training aircraft with very similar styling.

Fuggit Khan:

I'd guess the F4 phantom.

Abecedar
Yep, a different scale (but overall it could be used as a spaceship proxy for tabletop gaming?) And I love the F4 Phantom...that was my first ever airplane kit I ever made, a Revell kit back when I was about 7 years old. So, the DWG262 astro fighter is not based on the F4, similar wing planform though. Good guess!
Sweet!

Scar
Thanks, but not as sweet as your stuff though ;)
Nice neat work Fuggit, impressive. ;)

AtomTaylor
Thanks Mr Atom (I love your stuff by the way) :hat off
Ah.. and it's the hawker harrier.

TheHoodedMan
Another very good guess, again similar wing planform design. And thank you very much for the varnish tip...I will try that out for sure on the next fighter model I have :cheers

Bloodbeard
Very small! I used tweezers to apply them. And yeah, I lost count of how many times I held it up in the air and played with it flying around in dogfights, making "Wrooooom" noises :)

There are some great tutorials on the web for applying decals, like anything else, it just takes a bit of practice. Decals really do "make" the model :)
And another good guess for the plane inspiration! I've seen the T-2 at an airshow many years ago, it's amazingly agile, the acrobatics the pilot did was jaw dropping :o

So lots of good guesses, and good effort always deserves a reward...so I'll donate 15 slaves to each of you three fine gentlemen, Abecedar, Hood and Darkmeer :cheers

Correct answer (drum roll please), the DWG262 is based on the Messerschmidt ME262 Schwalbe...the worlds first operational jet fighter. The 262 designation is a good clue, as well as the double underslung engines. It's a beautiful warbird <3

Thank you gentlemen :cheers

TheHoodedMan:

I know this aircraft and had a Messerschmitt  model plane myself as a teenie!

It was one of my first models at all. But I wouldnt have recognised that plane although your story about the little girls similarities to the Red Baron should have pushed me the way to historical German aircraft.:hat off

Abecedar:

Hang on there. The engines are in the hull and its cannon pods on the wings isn’t it?

Though The ME262 is a much closer wing shape than my guess of the F4 Phantom

Darkmeer:

It’s a very nice plane. It’s so hard to decide with so many planes out there to use as inspiration.

Admiral:

Yes, the resemblance is there in the wings. It also explains the long nose. I got sidetracked by the tail to thinking of later decades’ jetplanes. Clever design from the inspirational source there!

Fuggit Khan:

I know this aircraft and had a Messerschmitt ;) model plane myself as a teenie!

TheHoodedMan
Doh! MesserschmiTT :)
My apologies to my German speaking brethren, for my poor spelling. And cool that you built a model of it!
Hang on there.  The engines are in the hull and its cannon pods on the wings isn't it?

Abecedar
You've got a very good eye there...yes, there are engines in the hull. But this plane has two sets of engines, it can fly in the atmosphere as well as in outer space...so the hull engines (and the wings naturally) are for atmospheric flight, the underslung wing engines are the hyperspace vent engines for operating in space. You can see the yellowish painted vents themselves in the underslung engines in the pic showing the bottom of the plane. And I'm sending you more slaves for such a great observation on your part, well done!
This plane is too small to have engines capable of making warp jumps itself, but the hyperspace vent engines do allow it to traverse the 'Getscham Gates', which are massive hyperspace jump portal 'gates'...you go in one gate, and pop out in another solar system via another gate (door).
Some of the massive circular Getscham Gates can be seen here:
(and the red "planet" is Balun, an artificial planet that is actually a gigantic power core that powers the gate orbiting Balun itself)

It's a very nice plane.

Darkmeer
Yes it is, truly a beautiful and sleek airplane, glad you like it  :hat off

Admiral
Yep, the more one looks at it, the more the resemblance becomes apparent. My photo's don't show a good side profile view of the model....but the profile is exceptionally close to the ME262 general outline.

Hoping you all had a bit of fun figuring it out. Hats off to you guys :hat off

Fuggit Khan:

As some of you have already figured out from my various posts, I am a huge fan of Mad Max Fury Road (shiny chrome!)
I’m also a huge fan of Bloodbeard’s ongoing blog of Devils Run, a Mad Max inspired game using Matchbox size cars, check it out if you missed his stuff.

So inspired by Bloodbeard’s cool Matchbox car conversions, I decided to make one too. And what better car than the custom tank car from Fury Road?

So I’m using a 1/86 HO scale German WW2 Jagdpanther and a Matchbox 1957 Cadillac El Dorado

Took them apart with a screwdriver, and was surprised to see that the tank had a solid metal block inside (for weight)

I chose the Jagdpanther tank because
1) It’s so damn cool!
2) The tread and wheel design design is perfect, it actually looks fast and sleek

Hacked up parts fitting together

And here is how it looks so far…needs more work and painting obviously. I’m tempted to paint the bogey tank wheels in chrome…but does anybody have some better suggestions?

Ride Eternal my War Boys

:hashut

Slavemaster Hod:

I definitely think the wheels need to be shiny chrome. All those chrome wheels will really sell that this has crazy tank wheels. I would maybe even try to do something to the treads to make them contrast the chrome, but stand out on their own.
